Default Help me somebody please help me!!

HELP!!!! My vette was running fine this morning no hard driving today at all. My wife drove my car and left me on empty my guage was saying "reserve Fuel". I pulled into a gas station to fill up and after I started the car. I noticed I had a real throaty exhaust deeper than normal and very little power. My check engine light came on my ABS light came on and so did my traction control. What could be wrong? I havent had this car for a month 97 with 80,000 miles and I have already replaced an oil sending unit. Could this be a lemon? Any ideas on what to check before I haul it to the dealer?

First off the Oil sending unit is very common to replace. I've done it and know of quite a few more people that have. Second...Did you let it run a little? Did you drive it home? If not then crank it up and let it idle for a little while giving it gas every once and a while. When I ran out of gas, it took a little while for the car to repressurize the system. I drove almost 5mi before it was back to normal. If I gave it gas it would sort of stumble then catch. Try that then report back.

Yes, I let it Idle for a few minutes then drove it for about 3-4 miles still had little power and feels as if it may shut off. I'm grateful for any input.

I hope it is just your system trying to repressurize. But I really hate to say it, your issue could be completely not related to the low gas level. The symptoms you mentioned above are exactly what my 97 was doing when the stock AC Delco battery cracked and was leaking all over the PCM wire harness. I hope you get everything sorted out.

This could be a bad battery or even bad gas. There are too many posibilities for anyone to give you a definative answer. You need to get it to a good service tech. Poop happens. It's not neccesarily a lemon. Good luck.

How to Enter Diagnostic Mode
The "diagnostic display" mode is entered with the following procedure:
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the "reset" button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold "options"
4) While holding "options", press "fuel" four times within a 10-second period.
When first engaged the on-board diagnostics go into an "automatic" mode which shows all parameters: PCM-TCS-RTD-BCM-IPC-radio-HVAC-LDCM-RDCM-SCM-RFA. If there are no problems, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display.
The computer will show two kinds of codes, "current" and "history," designated "C" or "H". A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a past problem.
When the screen displays "manual diagnostics," select the desired module by pressing the "options" button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Press "gauges" to go forward or "fuel" to go back.
To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press "E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press " reset".

Hope you fix your problem. But, if my wife brought back my car with no fuel, I would tell her to get back in it and fill it up. Its just common courtesy. She would do the same to me if I drove her car.

If she drives the car, she should fill it up when it gets low. Just my opinion of course

On the side of the problem, reserve fuel is the first notification. There is also a low fuel warning after that. I've hit reserve fuel a few times, with about 1.5-2 gallons left in the tank, I've not seen the problem you described.

OK - do the recommendations noted by GaryP above.

Write down the codes, and then 'clear' (RESET) them.

Post the codes here so we can look at them.

Next - has your battery (Delco) ever leaked? A good way to tell is to lift the battery (after disconnecting the battery cables) and feel/look at the battery tray (rub your finger underneath). Is there any battery acid residue?

Next - reconnect the battery (BTW - this should remove all codes, as well as any programmed seat positions, radio stations, steering wheel locations, etc.). It should also ensure that if the computer was 'hung up' it will be cleared.

You will need to drive the Vette a minimum of 50 miles to reset all the computers - we'll need to know if there was any issues that resurfaced.

Here's what your codes mean. The others will have nothing to do with engine.

DTC P0300
Engine Misfire Detected

DTC P1380
Misfire Detected - Rough Road Data Not Available

I don't know what to tell you except look unnder hood at all coil's and make sure everything looks ok. Call dealer and ask??

"I havent had this car for a month"

Is it possible to contact previous owner and see if he has any idea what's up? He may have had same problem and can steer you in the right direction.

I'd check your fuel filter. Your tank is 10 years old and running the tank down that low may have caused some contaminates to get ingested in your fuel line and clog your fuel filter
