Looking at getting these for my 2001 C5 convertible. Do I need an X pipe or not??? Not really sure what the advantages or benefits would be, or how an X pipe would affect the overall sound. Anybody? Thanks!
you "need" an x-pipe for the same reason you "need" the stingers (you don't). The x-pipe might net you 1-2 more hp on an otherwise stock engine, but you'll never feel the difference, what it will do is smooth out the some of the burping sound on deceleration.
I appreciate the feedback. I realize I do not "need" the Stingers. I just love the way they sound. I was just curious as to what the X pipe would bring to the table vs just bolting them on to the stock H pipe. Based on Lancer's response about the decrease in burping during deceleration, I think I got my answer. Thank you.

I have had Borla Stingers for a couple of years and have added AR headers and X pipe last month, first drive w/ it, the burbling and popping you get with Stingers only when letting off the gas or downshifting to slow down was greatly reduced.
I installed my Borla Stingers on my car in mid December, and at first I didnt think I would want an x-pipe, but after a while I really didnt like the popping, and after hearing that the x pipe will somewhat reduce the popping on decel, I decided to purchase one last sunday, it was shipped to me today and I should have it installed on saturday. I didnt buy the x pipe for performance gain its just that the popping is driving me nuts . Hope this helps

You also have more drone at highway speeds w/o the x.
I would try the Stingers without the X pipe, If you feel they are to loud and want to mellow out the system then add the X pipe.
So, will an X-pipe eliminate any of the drone you get with the Stingers? I've lived with it for about 3 years now and while I still absolutely love the sound of the Borlas if an X-pipe can tone down the drone a little bit I would seriously consider adding one to my car.
I love how my stingers sound. If I commuted everyday with it maybe I'd think otherwise but my vette is a toy and I kinda like it loud. Need to add headers to the mix someday.

Please post your thoughts after installing the X pipe this weekend. Would love to hear a first hand experience as to what difference it makes. Hope it solves your popping issue!

One word of caution- the x-pipe will reduce the sound of the popping and gurgling but will also increase the volume of the unwanted resonance between 2000 and 2500 rpm's from the stingers...
OK, I'm confused again. One post says you get more drone without the X-pipe and then another post says you'll have increased resonance with the X-pipe. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I've always thought drone and resonance were the same thing. If anyone could help clear this up for me it would be greatly appreciated as I'm still trying to figure out whether or not to add the X-pipe to my car. Thanks!
