Texas Mile - Top speed runs
All my plans went haywire so I did not get to attend the Texas Mile last week. Did anyone make it? Anything special catch your attention?

I believe there was an old 2.0L EVO that did 200+ that's the "talk of the town"

Was that a club run? Is that open to the public? I will google it, but just wondering what info you guys had!
I wonder what costs are involved for the ~20 seconds of fun? Requirements?

Open to the public but regulated. Try www.Texasmile.com for information and pictures. Looks like the next run is the end of October.

Drifting
He did go 202 mph on his last run I believe. You guys have to remember this is a very light, built evo 2 (think Eclipse, Talon, etc) with a gt42 turbo the size of your head. Lost of lag on a little motor, but it explodes up top. I believe he was around 8600 rpm at speed. Small motors like to spin with only set of valvesprings and retainers you can turn a 4g63 to 9000+ rpm. I would bet Mike's car would make 900-1000 whp on c16 race gas around 45psi.
I use to be a big DSM guy and still keep up on the progress of the cars. My old Talon made 523 whp on c16 at 30 psi.

Ugh.
I come over here to get away from DSMs (build them for a living--somedays "unfortunately").
Good video regardless. A lot of people are still shocked at what a measly 2 liters of displacement can do. I just decided to try something a little bit larger this time around since I've spent the last 10 years on Mitsus.

Bah, that's no fun. ;-)
I used to LOVE beating up on local guys with modded C5s with our old Mirage coupe with 400+ whp (<2100lbs....it's called "shift into 4th at 100+ and still change lanes automatically with the LSD), or the Galant VR4 with a decent amount more on pump gas.
I have to admit though, most (if not all) of the guys we'd hand their *** to would always give us a "thumbs up" and/or pull us over to ask about the car afterwards.
Shows a little something about character...
I'm anxious to play with this chassis and 3.7 litres more of displacement---that is until we build the motor. ;-)

Pro
a friend of mine that works at AMS in chicago hit 228 in their Evo. the motor was running lower boost than it usually does, but threw a rod at the end of the run and caught fire. they're rebuilding and shooting for 240 later in the year

I've got all the pics of almost all the runs above, as I do of Octobers Mile with videos. I didn't get videos of the runs this year, but I did get around 400 pics at the 1 mile mark from Saturday.

Thank you to all who came to the Texas Mile.
Here is the "official" writeup from the weekend. Basically it was AWESOME!
MTI Racing sets record (0 to 1-Mile, 206 mph)
Goliad, Texas, 3 Days, 1 Mile, No speed limit. MTI Racing returned to The Texas Mile in search of the most prestigious acceleration challenge to date. Participants come from all edges of the United States, Canada and Mexico to test themselves and their motorized equipment to achieve their top speed in 1-Mile from a standing start.
At 206 mph, MTI Racing now holds the record for the Fastest Naturally Aspirated Production car ever to run the Texas Mile.
Equipped with our 2006 Z06, we applied precise engineering principles in engine building technology, aerodynamics and transmission preparation. Powered by a 500cu.in. engine built by our very own MTI Machine Shop, Reese *** piloted the Z06 down the 4-mile airstrip from a standing start to 206 mph at the 1-mile marker, while still accelerating at full force. Customers Mike and Bob brought their MTI Racing built Z06’s and ran 203mph and 198 mph, respectively. Among the paddock, there were steak BBQ’s and drivers telling tall tales. Motorcoaches everywhere! If you have never been to the Texas Mile, we encourage you to drive up and join us, especially for the hilarious “downtime festivities”. We captured a bunch of video using the HeroCam. Be on the lookout for that video.
