Has anyone used Amsoil in their vehicle? And/or done a UOA (used oil analysis)? Amsoil is not cheap, running around $7 quart, but I have used it with success in my motorcycle, so just wondering if anyone was satisfied with it.
I get my new wheels/tires this weekend, and I'll post some pictures after!
I have used AmsOil in all of my rear ends and gearboxes for more than 20 years without any problems so far. I've also been using AmsOil in my Diesel Ford since new in 2001 and even with 15 quart oil changes, consider it worth every penny.
I've been using Mobil 1 in my Corvettes since the mid 80's and have no complaints either. As long as you're using a good quality synthetic, I doubt you would be able to discern a difference without an oil analysis, which isn't a bad idea itself!
Taking care of them now is always cheaper than repairing them down the road.
Thanks to all....think even though it is more expensive I'll try the Amsoil this time. It really quieted down my motorcycle when I used it (I have a Honda VTX 1300).
For the heck of it, if I do the UOA, I'll let everyone know how it went; sounded interesting but I don't think it's really necessary.
I am waiting to get as close to 8,000 miles on my oil change to send in the oil for analysis. I will post up once this is done. I have used Amsoil in my Z for two years now. I use the synthetic 10W-30 motor oil the Synthetic ATF and the 75-90 rear Severe gear oil. If you become a prefered dealer you can save money on your purchases. Try to PM Brad aka Subdriver on the forum here. He can set you up. Don
I run Amsoil in all my vehicles.(ZO6, 07 Sierra 6.0 and Pontiac GTP) The product is a bit more expensive but then I do not change my oil every 3,000 miles. I go every 6 months or 5,000 miles. Even at that interval the oil is remakably clean looking. Yes, the oil is a little more expensive than others but I did not buy my Corvette ZO6 with saving money on oil changes in mind. As a preferred Amsoil customer I get a discount and it brings the cost down to a couple of dollars more than Mobil 1 per quart. The wear test and history of Amsoil justify the added expense and sense of security I get from using the Amsoil lubricants and filters.
Brad Neff aka subdriver provided me with a lot of solid information and guidance in making the switch. I am happy I did.

Amsoil is great oil. Go on BITOG and you will see.
However I don't believe it has been certified as meeting GM4718M spec, so you could void your warranty if you're still covered.
Penzoil Platinum 5w-30 is on the approved list, as is getting good reviews on BITOG. Mobil1 gets +/- comments, ok but there are concerns about it now being group 3, and questions about the new formulation.

I have used it for 15 years and love it. I have also used the UOA. worth every penny

The 5W-30 and the 10W-30 both meet the GM spec 4718M. I have used both. Don
For those of you under warranty still, you want to remember one important factor. There is a difference between an oil meeting 4718M, and an oil that is registered by GM for 4718M. See the picture below:

I beg to differ. Where does Amsoil (or GM) say that the Amsoil MEETS the GM Spec??????
Amsoil, in their typical slippery manner, just says that they (Amsoil) RECOMMENDS these oils for the GM spec-----------they don't say that the oils ACTUALLY MEET the spec------nor do they get actual API certification.
If you care about your Vette, use an oil that is actually certified to meet the GM specs!!!!

As an educated man or engineer as you have listed yourself the above statement is pretty lame.
You think I do not care for my car because of a well chosen oil product.
I think you better do your research before you call someone out. You do understand meets or exceeds right! or if not you can read the full page links below.
These are the links for the following oils.

Look (and carefully read) the links you posted!! Amsoil does claim, in the first link for 0w-30 oil, that this oil meets the specs listed. Sorry, I only checked Amsoil's claims for the 5w-30 viscosity oil that GM recommends. However, I still don't see any API certification for this 0w-30 oil.
Then, in your next 2 links, Amsoil falls back on their usual recommended statement----which isn't worth anything when you have a warranty claim.
When there are so many fully API certified, NOT TO MENTION GM APPROVED oils out there, from very reputable companies (that don't play word games and that don't ignor API certification), why go with a company that does both????
I also find it amusing that Amsoil uses Mobil 1 as their point of reference----kind of like all the guys that like to say their car is faster than a Vette.
Have any of you tried NEO? I have used it for years after Amsoil changed their formula years ago. NEO is formulated in Long Beach, CA and it is a true di-ester based synthetic. Visit them at www.neosyntheticoil.com Tell PJ that you got this tip on Corvette Forum.
Neo is the best oil I have found. From trannys, gearboxes and fuel additives. Even a terrific hand cleaner.
