Lubricating the weatherstrip
I've seen guys post about using dielectric grease to lubricate the weatherstrip.
Mines not too bad yet but I think I ought to do something before it becomes a problem.
Dielectric grease is hard to get hold of here in England. Anyone used any other product or lubricant to do the job?

I use dielectric grease, seems to work very well for me. Can you order it through GMpartsdirect to be shipped overseas??

It's pretty common stuff. I would think somebody there would have it? Good luck, that's all I have used so no other suggestions.

Thank you for this thread! I' ve been to 5 or 6 auto parts stores and two Chev. dealers looking for the silicon grease suggested in my '04's owners manual. They all wanted to sell me a can of silicon lubricant spray. As I predicted, the Chev. dealers just looked stupid when I asked for silicon grease. Thanks for the GM part number.

Chevy dealers sell a silicone grease for the weather strips. Mid America Motorworks also sell it. David

What does your local auto parts store sell to dress the spark plug boots? It should be dielectric grease.

Theres only one auto parts store - Halfords and they're not the best in the western hemisphere.
I checked with them and they don't have anything that fits the bill. I eventually found it online at a specialist auto parts seller.
I just wish I could still drive down the road and choose from Autozone, Checker Auto Parts, Pep Boys..... Oh well......

The product that GM recommends contains DuPont Krytox. It is pretty expensive from GM. There is an alternative to GM as a source it is a Pool and Spa Lube. You might want to use that as a search. It is also used as an "O" ring lube. We have a chain store here that sells it known as Leslie's but I think that is local.
A 100 gram tube goes for $5. here.

Until you can find the 'correct stuff', KY jelly works great!!!
I keep a tube of it on my work bench and used it for lubing the hatch seals when I owned my 78 Pace Car.

I use "303 Aerospace protectant" for my weatherstripping.
You might be able to find it in stores.
