A C3 is dated. A C4 is dated. A C5 is not, yet anyway.
C5 dated ?...well of course not...the oldest C5 is only 10 years old
which is not very long ago.
Give C5 another 10 years and it most likely it will look very different
to your eyes than it does now.
Remember when my dad's car pool driver got the first year C4
in I think 1984 and I thought wow this great car will never look
dated...guess what ??? ..now I think it looks horrible..
C5 is incredible design..but it's so smooth and rounded out
everywhere. The more linear look of C6 is a more aggressive
look...problem is it seems to have some awkward angles..such
as the lines that come to a point in the back of the car.
No Vette looks dated? The whitewall tires and all that chrome date this car to 1950s. It is still a beautiful car, but the styling is clearly part of a different era.
my take on the word "dated" means out of style or no longer meaningful, which doesn't apply to any Corvette as far as looks imho

It's the linear look and awkward angles, that kill most designs....
I never did like a C4, because of all the straight lines it had.... 1986 is probably the worst example of the bunch.
Just like a beautiful woman...... Smooth lines and nice curves are never out of style.

While the design is certainly out of style, the car is as meaningful today as the day it was made.
I think of dated as meaning "to mark with characteristics typical of a particular period." While previous generations of Corvettes fall in that category, I don't think the C5 is one of them.

10 years can be a long time in car years.
I was never a fan of the C4 it looks way too angular and reminds me of a wedge, even when growing up as a child.
While the C5 will eventualy have a dated look to it, no one can say when that will happen, but i am sure its lines will be more memorable just like the C3 is.
Oh yea the 6 has grown on me but NFW am i spending 40K on a car
When I bought my first Vette a year ago this month...I had to pinch myself several times to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
While I prefer a FRC or Z06 (C5 of course), I am still as excited about my 98 as the day I bought it.
As others have said, the basic flowing lines/style of the car will keep it from becoming "dated". Back in 97...when the first ones rolled out of Bowling Green, I thought..."what a beautiful car...except for the rear end...they got to the back and just stopped designing." As with many new vehicle designs, the rear of the C5 has grown on me...I can't imagine a nicer looking rear to compliment the rest of the car...AWESOME!
Until I can "step up" to a FRC or Z06, I'll keep enjoying my 98 Pace...

Reason: too much information
There's a difference between "Dated" and "Beautifully Styled". As others have pointed out, older Corvettes may be "dated" but are still beautifully styled. The mid-years are a prime example. I always get comments about how good looking my '67 is when I drive it----often from women that are younger than the car !!
When I bought the AE convertible, I could have afforded a C6. Although the C6 is a "better" car from a purely objective viewpoint (and looks OK), it isn't nearly as gracefull and good looking as the C5 .
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
