Venting... There is ONEEE certain guy who comes into my job almost every week. He has a Silverado and a 02 Corvette. The Vette has like 2200 miles on it. He is the most **** person I have ever met in my life. The first time I met him he told ..... " There isnt one scratch on the car... if it gets one its your ***" I was extremely angry with this guy. He seems to look down on people who dont have Vette's I guess. I never told him I had one. The other day I told him I had one and now he treats me like a totally different person...

Don't let it get to you. I dropped my Vette off for an alignment and an inspection last Friday. I asked the service writer to do a walk around the car with me. I told him that I wanted to make sure that he saw there was no damage and that I wanted to pick it up the same way. He owns a Cobra and is a car guy and understood.
When I picked it up, all was good. We shot the chit for a while about cars.

I can see his concern for his car, but to treat people like they are beneath him is just . Not much you can do since you are there to provide a service - maybe he won't have to come in too often.
I'll never understand that mindset from vette owners. Hell, an '02 vette can be purchased for the price of a honda accord (i.e. it's not exactly an exclusive vehicle). Now, if he were driving a Lamborghini Murcielago, I could see his attitude.

And we all wonder why Vette owners have the reputation that they do....
The reality is that there are some folks right here on this forum that are every bit as **** as your customer. Don't get me wrong - I love my car to death. But in the end it is just a car and if it gets a scratch, I can get it fixed.
I think the lesson to be learned here is to treat people with respect and fairly, and you will generally get treated that way in return. If your customer behaved like a human being, then you would want to treat him like a gentleman, instead of treating him like the A$$HOLE he is.

Don't worry about it. You know what kind of person he is.
There's no requirement that you actually have to be a decent person to own a Vette. Most are, but even some jerks have the desire and enough money to buy a vette.
Perhaps he has been burned before during service...
The dealership cracked the hood on my C4 by leaving a ratchet on the plenum and slamming the hood. They did not tell me about it....
You could see the inprint of the ratchet on the underside of the hood and the top of the Al plenum !
My attittude changed afterwards and I am much more diligent now and ask for a walk around before and after servicing.

Right on. Attitude is infectious, so if you go in acting like a jerk you're going to be treated like a jerk. Conversely, you go in warm, friendly and respectful of someone, you're generally going to get the same in return. With the right attitude there's no need to go over the top to point out that your car is your baby -- they will "get it" and treat it accordingly.

He comes in ALLLLLLLL the time... He changes his oil like every 200 miles... this guy is NUTSSSS.... I was telling him since his car was in perfect shape that I wouldnt buy touch up paint and he was like.... just bc you work at a chevy dealership doesnt mean anything... He has come in 3 times in 2 weeks, and will NOTTTTT talk to any one but me...
I've learned over the years that if you treat people right, take time to be polite, take time to notice a person in an irritating job as an individual, you get treated right. I always chit-chat with the service writers and mechanics and relay that I sat on their side of the desk or service bay, and I appreciate what they do. If they do a nice job I come in a few days later with coffee, and thank them. My cars aren't ever abused, nice people attract nice people.
I also don't give a S$%T if my Corvette burned tomorrow, or was smashed, it's just a F%^KING CAR! They make more, just like bags of potato chips! I enjoy keeping it nice, but it's got rock chips now and tiny scratches, there's plenty of black paint out there, I'll repaint it someday, or buy another car, I know it won't be the last 'vette I'll ever own, so who cares! I get a kick out of people who are so **** about their cars and belongings, they live a tormented existence of lack. They believe the world is out to screw them, and they guard their belongings like they are the last items of that type on earth. But the bottom line is if they had a bad heart and were dying, they would trade EVERYTHING they own for a transplant heart! STUFF IS NOTHING MORE THAN STUFF!
Thanks for your story, it touched a chord withme concerning a few people I know!

Excellent post, too many people treat material possessions like they are the last ones on earth. Drives me crazy, a car is a car is a car, who cares if its a corvette, a mustang, a honda, a whatever, its still got 4 wheels and an engine just like the rest of them out there. I know a lot of people buy corvettes to be pretentious and those people drive me crazy, I bought the car cause I liked it, thats the ONLY reason I buy anything for myself, what do I care if someone else sees me in it, or likes it I don't care. I don't care about compliments, they're nice to get but mean very little, especially when they are about a car, if you really want to compliment someone, compliment their manners, the way they act, something that actually matters. /rant.

John - your eloquence is amazing and you are spot on!
While I love my car, it is still just a car. I guess when you survive cancer twice (once 15 years ago and the other itme 30 years ago), you gain a true perspective on what is important in life. And you understand how to enjoy every minute God has blessed you with here.
Your co worker has a car thats 5 years old, he averages about 450 miles a year. Why even have a car that nice if all its going to do is sit in the garage? It just doesnt make any sense.
