I don't know why but they are not worth it and they are probably the worst run flats out there. I just got Michelins and they are great and alot cheaper,$1188 shipped from Directirediscount (I believe that's the name).
Goodyear just resolved the strike by their union workers. Wonder what kind of concessions they gave up? Maybe that's reflective of the new higher prices
I bought the Michelin Pilot Sports and I LOVE them. My C-5 ride is awesome and I haven't missed the stiff EMT's at all. They are fairly expensive but worth.

My Michelin AS ZPs were about the same price ($335 and $360 each) at Costco. The reason for the better ride is that the Michelins are only rated for 50 miles when flat so the sidewalls are not as stiff.
I had to replace a rear after a nail. That cost $360 at Discount Tire.
I also got chance to compare the non run flats for a few days. Even better if you can stand the lack of protection from a flat.
There are a number of choices out there better than the OEMs IMHO.

Had mine about a month, (A/S-ZP) and love 'em, great in the rain and less noise than the Proxes TS1's (non-runflat) I took off. $1288.00 out the door at Costco. Dropped off tires/wheels only, and wire brushed/painted hats & calipers. Tire factory was a little less $ but wanted $125.00 EA. to ship! I told 'em I could drive to Reno & back cheaper than that. "When deflated the EMTs on Vettes are rated by GM for 200 miles in 73 degrees weather at 55 mph with the car at gross weight"
As with all these things its who you believe but the article on CAC is quite good.
If the Goodyears are not stiffer sidewalls than the Michelins then I'll eat my hat. And by the way, I've had Goodyears, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s and Pilot Sport AS/ZPs on my Vette within the space of a week. I got the chance for a good comparison.
Stiffer than a stiff thing
Tires are made of Rubber... Styrene-Butadiene Rubber
Both the Styrene and Butadiene either come from crude oil and natural gas. Many petrochemicals deamn is greater than the supply beccause China's growth engine is uscking up world surpluses.
Many large company's have long term contracts that give them some shielding from cost increases. However, costs do catch up. I suspect that the increase in curde oil along with increased labor costs and supply/demand imbalance resulted in cost increases that are now being passd along to us...
