Sorry to hear that. Not a great way to finish your day.
I'd be pushing for a new rear bumper. It was perfect before the accident; why should it be filled with fiberglass afterwards? You shouldn't suffer for his poor sleeping habits.
Actually, this part kind of surprised me. I assumed that all insurance companies had 24-hour contact numbers to report accidents.
Maybe it's his 'agent' who was gone for the day. My agent isn't around after 5pm local too, but the actual insurance provider - in my case American Family - has a 24 hour claim number.
On the bright side (if there is one), if you had to get hit, that was the best place to absorb the impact - that is what it was designed to handle.
I put it up on a lift this morning at a friend's place, and can now see why the impact was so jarring (couple of hours in a Lazy Boy took care of most of the stiffness in my middle aged bones). After deforming the styrofoam support, the next thing it hit was the rear frame crossmember. I was wondering about wheel alignment, but after looking, am pretty sure damage was limited to the bumper cover and support. I'll have my wife take it for estimates on Monday.
Does anyone know of shops in the Cumming, Georgia vicinity that specialize in Corvette body repair?
I just looked at the time stamp, and it must be central. It was about 5:45 EST when it happened, so I didn't think anyone would be there anyway. Curious about the insurance. I thought you always had to involve your own company, even if it wasn't your fault.
Thanks,
Tim Glover
P.S., Silverbullet00, I've tried polishing the tips before, but have never really gotten any luster out of them. May I ask what polish you use?
The OO steel wool will slick these babies right up. It will also take out pits and leave a lusterous shine. With no scratches.
on the accident, that sucks. on the repair 2 words Tiger Shark.
on the Tiger Shark
I just checked out the Tiger Shark rear fascia kit. That thing looks really cool, and is probably near the same cost as the stock cover. I wonder if it is difficult to modify my Ti exhaust to fit the opening?
Also, Redvette777, thank you for the 00 steel wool tip. I'll try that out as soon as the estimates are done.
After having calmed down since the accident, I'm glad it was no worse.
The damage to mine was nothing compared to what I've seen on some other forum member's rides.
So very sorry to see/read of your accident. Good to hear that you are okay. I think the fix will go pretty well. A buddy of mine had his ZO6 REAR-ENDED and it was determined that the person was traveling about 30 mph and the repair went extremely well. Can't even tell that he was rear-ended. Of course, the place that repaired his car is a corvette shop that has been around for decades!
