Default MN6 Fluid, your pick?

I'd like to change my manual tranny fluid, any recomendations for better shifting when cold?

John

I just changed mine this past week and the shifting is better and smoother. I used oriliey ATF Dextron III. My car is a 99. The oil capacity is 3.5 quarts. My total cost was under $10 to change the oil myself and mybe like 15minutes.

I had Mobil 1 ATF in for 51,000 miles - good shifting until 6th starting grinding.

I then switched to Amsoil ATD - no complaints, solved 6th gear grind. I have 103,000 miles on my C5.

Go to a synthetic fluid, much better cold shifting.

So you guys are going with an automatic transmission fluid (ATF) in your manual tranny?

Is there a reason for this (i.e. better than a manual transmission fluid).

sgtzim... the specs for the MN6 manual transmisison require a Dexron III fluid....

any Dexron III ATF fluid will do...
Some claim the exotics like Redline, Amsoil or Royal Purple SynchroMax give smoother shifting..

"the specs for the MN6 manual transmisison require a Dexron III fluid...." 'Tis true.

I did mine about 6 months ago and it is clearly stated via a sticker (at least on my '01) to use Dexron III ATF. The sticker was directly next to the drain. It was impossible to miss. I simply used the Delco Dexron III ATF fluid.

Doing so provided me with a much smoother shifting following the change and mine only had 25000 miles on it at the time.

Default Redline full synthetic

I switched Dexron III to Redline D4 Synthetic ATF and was not suprised by the smoother gear action but was suprised that the tranny was quieter.
