First mod I did also.
Love it, could not drive the car with the stock shifter.
Some people like the ZO6 shifter better, I don't know, never tried it.
Being an old guy, I grew up with Hurst shifters, like the Hurst ball.
I have the Hurst in my Coupe. At first, it was very stiff with respect to going over into 1st or over to 5th. It has loosened up now and feels very solid. I changed out the springs that effect the side movement but went back to the original springs and it is fine.
I drove a friend of mine 2002 Coupe the other day with the stock shifter and it felt like I was waving a stick around it was so loose compared to my Hurst. I will never go back to stock shifter.
I cant compare it with stock since I got the car with it but the Hurst seems to be very notchy. Im not a huge fan but its ok. If I ever find something smoother I'll swap.
Mine was in the car when I bought it, and I would never consider removing it.
I too "grew up" with a Hurst in my hand. The first was a 15" lever sticking out of the floor of '61 Pontiac Ventura! They were the best back then, and I have no complaint today. Sure they are a little notchy, but as most raceres say "Man-up and deal with it!" I can deal with the notchy - ness as long as I am 100% confident that I am not going to miss a gear, when I am shifting fast!
If I were to buy a new Vette, this would be my first mod.

Changing out to Red Line D4 ATF or to Amsoil ATF can really help in the smoother shifting department too. It did for mine within a couple weeks of changing it a few years ago.

I Love my Hurst Shifter. It is awesome. I'm not going to say that there arent some occasional downsides, like the slight vibration noise at high rpms, or the notchiness. But overall it is worlds better than the stock shifter. When we were ordering our C6 I sat in a C5Z for a minute and tried the stock shifter after being with the Hurst for a couple months and it really felt like I was rowing a boat!
I've got a Hurst short-shifter and I love it. I can't compare it with stock because it was on my car when I got it. At first, I have to admit, it felt funny, but after a mere 2 or 3 days, I got completely used to it and absolutely love it. Its very precise... click-click-click into each gear. The funny part is now when I drive most standard stock shifts in other cars, they feels spongy as can be. No complaints here.
Love it..but you have to put alot of teflon tape on the **** threads if your gonna use the stock ****. and be patient with the stiffness at first. the shifter will loosen up the more you drive it.
Was on my car when I got it and compared to the other stockers I have driven the Hurst is so superior to the factory on there is no comparsion on the improvement
for me this is a good thread.
My next mod is a shifter. I 'm old school and so Hurst is first choice and
I like the positive feed back I see here. savage1
I've got the B&M ripper, new style, #45044, very quiet, very precise. I chose this shifter when I was deciding because of the "buzzing" review the Hurst received from forum members. That delightful Hurst rattle BELONGED in my '70 Mach 1, (Hurst was the factory shifter) but NOT in my '04 C-5, it would seem out of place. I believe that B&M bought out Hurst, if I remember correctly!
