Anyone have their windshield replaced in their C5? What did it cost? I have a very small ding in the windshield, a few scratches, and the normal highway pin marks. I really would like a new one. I was wondering what I'm looking at $$ wise.
Got 3 quotes last week. I have a small scratch from a broke wiper. If you have hud like me the prices started at $1500 to $2340. Everyone I talked to said you needed to use GM factory glass and replace all the molding. I was told that the hud unit may not display properly with other aftermarket glass.(don't know if that's true or not) The only thing is that the factory glass is on back order with GM. Good luck..

This topic was on the forum not long ago, and there are plenty of folks out there that have actually replaced their HUD windshield with a Non-HUD windshield with the only negative effect being that the display is somewhat "lighter." It is obviously a false statement that you MUST have HUD glass as there are also quite a few folks that add HUDs to their non-HUD equipped cars and don't replace their windshields. I guess it's a matter of how much your deductible is and how much you want your insurance company to shell out past that! Getting ready to replace mine as well.....won't be a HUD!
Here in FL I've always been told that windshield replacements are covered by any insurance. Not sure why, or if it's true. But you could check with your insurer.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't have HUD in my car. The one thing I noticed is they all want to replace the moldings which are more expensive than the windshield itself. One quote was $550 w/ moldings $275 without, but they almost always need to do the moldings.
As far as HUD goes, I understand that it will display on the regular windshield just fine.

I bought my 01 coupe last summer and had the windshield replaced within a week due to one chip that had some radiating cracks. The markings on the windshield are the same as the rest of the glass. This is a VERY reputable shop in Syracuse, NY. It was recommended that I replace with the HUD specific windshield or "it wouldn't be the same". State Farm paid the billl anyways.
I took the car back a few days later and had them buff the glass (looked like scratches to me). Got it back perfect. They didn't charge me but I left $20 for the guy that did the work.

I just had the windshield in my 03Z replaced 2 weeks ago. The glass shop ordered the lightweight HUD glass and had it in the shop 2 days after I called them. It took them a couple of manhours to replace the glass. No problems with the installation and the cost to me was $0.0 as I have full glass coverage on my comprehensive insurance.
We just bought the vette about a month ago. It has about 1/2" sized pothole in the windshield up in the tinted area. I'm pretty sure its been treated to prevent spreading - it's just aweful ugly (and big).
Not sure if the insurance company will cover this since its a new purchase and we didn't actually put the pothole there ourselves.... I'll give 'em a call anyway - not holding my breathe. They probably won't cover a new replacement if the hole's been treated already unless it's a safety issue...?
With tint, HUD, and antennae in the windshield...it's gotta be $$$$.
Had my HUD windshield replaced last year to the tune of $0.00 thanks to my zero deductible glass coverage. The insurance company, however, shelled out almost $1500 for it. The way I look at it, the extra $1/month for no deductible glass coverage is money well spent.
I just had my 99 Vert W/S replaced 333.00. Mine has HUD and I used a non HUD. I can see the read out fine. It may not be quite as clear but for the difference in $$, I can live with it being a bit harder to read.
