Default MPG Again...

I hate to start one of these but I had a weirds thing happen to me today.

I had to travel for work today so I took the vette due to its great mpg and fun to drive.

I filled her up and set out on my way, I'm used to getting 27-29 mpg on trips, I have the A4 2.73 with Stingers and Blackwing

Today at 75mph I was getting 25mpg, what gives?

I don't know but I didn't get as good as highway mileage that I normally get when I went to the Lone Star Classic last weekend!

Dont feel bad, Since I changed rims and tires from stock 02 zo6 sizes, my gas mileage dropped from 27 mph to 20 mph. I put on the ccw 505a 19x10 19X11 im not sure I would of done that if i knew it was going to crush my mileage this much.

Is it possible that you filled up with some ethanol or a blend? My 04 gets 27-28 if I keep my foot out of it, but when I fill up with this crap around Houston I loose 3-4 mpg.

Could be any number of things - temperature, wind speed, traffic conditions.

I have to admit I was going against a stiff breeze today... no traffic and I was set on 75mph cruise.

Sounds like you found a station with the "Summer blend" of ethanol in it.

The average mpg is a running average over the time since the DIC was last reset

Did you reset it recently. If not you must have really enjoyed the perfrmance of the car for it to drop so quickly. Normally my average mpg falls slowly even if I'm quite "spirited". How was the instantaneous mpg? Thats a true reading of mpg at that moment.

Try a reset of the mpg and you'll see what you're getting as an average for a single trip.

Have to say I get 19 around town and 25+ on a run so 28+ is good.

Known Fact, emissions grade gasoline kills mileage 4-5 mpg! That happens all the time to me when I go from Rural Virginia to Connecticut to visit family, my "good gas mileage" vehicle's mpg goes into the toilet when I fill up in that state. Not only does the gas COST MORE, you get less mileage so you have to buy more, WHAT A RIP-OFF!

I try to reset every fill up...

on this trip I hit reset as soon as I hit the cruise control at 75pmh.

I gl;anced over to the instant and saw 21 to 23 mpg.
