"We're you wearing your seatbelt back there?"
"Uh, no"
"I'm going to let the tint go by, but I'll have to give you a ticket for the seatbelt."
"No problem, I understand"
Not crazy eye sight just got lucky he told the truth
Wow and I thought most people nowadays are wearing belts!! Cop must have had crazy eye sight to see through your tint and spot your without a belt.
What does he have....x-ray vision
I feel naked if I don't have mine on now Funny how 20 years ago, I used to bitch and moan about wearing a seat belt and now I can't go 2 ft. without having that thing on.

If that was his first question, then I assumed he already knew. Wasn't going to lie to him. I also have a concelaed weapons permit. Here in Va, that information is available when they run the tags. I'm not going risk losing that right over a $50 ticket.
Anyway, like I said in the original post, he was super nice and very courteous. I will always give the same respect, even if it costs me $50.
Yup, to cap off my 3 day weekend, I get pulled over yesterday. He asked if I knew what percentage the tint was. "Uh, no". Clips on the tint gauge and it reads 13%. We both laughed.

The cop was really polite and friendly and just doing his job. My own fault. However, he never did tell me to remove the tint. I think he "overlooked" it and just did the seatbelt ticket. He also never mentioned the blackouts. Guess I'll just roll the dice again........with my seatbelt on.
Ahhhh.. the good 'Ol Commonwealth of VA' and their tint tickets. I've been pulled over twice (by the same trooper) in the past year for my 35% tint. He gave me a ticket each time, so now i'm a habitual offender.
This wasn't by chance in the area of Interstate 64 (New Kent County)was it?
Im assuming that when he cam up to the car you werent wearing your seat belt? Cause if thats the case most officers are trained to ask if you were wearing it cause IF you admit to it its easy money for the city.
When somebody gets in my car and doesn't put on the belt I usually say "why don't you put your seat belt on, I saw something in a cartoon once but I'm pretty sure I can do it." They usually buckle or get out of the car quick.
Congrats on the first ticket! You do know you the Constitutional Right to not incriminate yourself though. You don't have to lie. Just don't open your mouth.

Yea, but that kind of "participation" would have probably guaranteed him a ticket for the tint... and maybe a check to see if the front plate was on there... and anything else the cop felt like being a stickler about.

You don't know that. Also I would imagine a tint ticket would be less than a seatbelt violation. Your not being a d!ck or dishonest in not admitting guilt. It's your right. That cop just wnated some quick tax money anyway. Either seatbelt or tint he was gettin' some money.

All in all I'd say you did okay. He could have cited you for both. The tint ticket would have ended up costing you much more since you would have had to remove and/or replace your tint ($200, thank you).

Uh, no... never a good time to lie to an LEO. I applaude VinnyT for bucking up and telling the truth.
Geez, there are what, a couple hundred laws out there they we don't like because they're inconvenient (including speed restrictions)? Like it or not we all make a choice whether to obey or disobey. If we disobey and get caught we really have no right to complain.
Benpup - I think I'd fight that one. If the officer makes that same statement in court it is as much as saying that you were in fact obeying the law "within reason".
I wear my seat belt ALWAYS. I had a wreck about 20 years ago where it saved my life. But i still feel it should be my choice to wear it or not... Must the Government be my keeper on everything???? "It" is my body.... Just ranting.... Sorry
Typical good cop bad cop, you did this and this wrong but I will only write you up for the one thing. Makes you think you got a deal, like it was on sale or two for the price of one. Still sucks when you get home and think about it.
