so say you had an 01 with the 385 horse, and you just wanted to add a supercharger to it,, first what horsepower would you think it would have, and also could you get away with just doing that, without having to increase the strength anyway else? Or do you think it would cause problems? Plus what kind of supercharger has been used in this application before?
Lots of supercharger choices available. Kenne Bell, ATI, Magnacharger, Vortech, and twin turbo systems available too.
I have an ATI, but am not a fanboy. I am sure you will hear ad nausea from some of them about why this and not that.
My opinion is that you do need to do a few things. Fuel system, perhaps alcohol or meth if you want to run at the upper end of stock bottom end capability, upgraded clutch (this probably not fully necessary, but youll need it eventually!). That gets you there...anywhere from 450 rwhp to maybe 600 or 625. Most will somewhat agree that going above 550 rwhp you are going to break something pretty major sooner or later. I have 571 with alcohol, and I am not without issues, but a year later, and maybe 5 to 6k miles - I have only had belt issues. My fuel system probably has a tiny leak somewhere too as my garage reeks of fuel...wife loves it.

See my sig. for the answer that has been bone stock reliable after 8500miles on my LS6 in my 02 Z06. WIth a similar set-up running 7 to 8 lbs on ECS D1SC or NOVI 2000 kit you should be making around 570rwhp (and run alky for protection/insurance and not to make more power on a stock LS6 shortblock)!

My 2 cents..

Jeff,
Just a thought ... many garages have gas hot water heaters and/or other ignition sources in them (even an electric garage door opener can generate sparks on rare occasions) .... so you may want to consider parking the car outdoors until the fuel leak is fixed ....
While I agree alky is insurance...in my case we tuned the car based more on alky than fuel (Keith McCord). Without the alky we could only get up to ~11 degrees of timing without KR creeping in, resulting in 460 or 470 rwhp. With alky...18 degrees...safe...571/511.
So...I think it could be argued that it did both for me - more power, and more insurance.
