Hit the search feature, and knock yourself out. Yes it is a common problem, there have been several recalls but I would recommend getting the CLB (Column Lock Bypass kit).
Yes common, ready the sticky at the top on the column lock, do not take it to the dealer, do a search and buy the CLB (column lock bypass) and you will not have any more issues. Also you could shake the wheel sometimes this temporarily fixes it, but it will return like a nightmare.
Yep!!! the old column lock dog bites another victim. Try turning wheel hard from side to side if this doesn't work you might have to have it hauled. GM fixed this very common problem under warranty for us y2k guys. I know there is a CLB that you can have installed to fix this problem once and for all.
Did you buy it from a chevy dealer ? You may get it fixed for free call em & see.
Seriously this is not good advice. By letting the dealer perform the recall you open yourself up for faulty k harnesses and the reprograming of your computer to cut fuel. Many people have regretted going to the dealer and wished they had just installed the CLB from the start.

Many, many threads about this topic. Search the forum and see if you can get the column unlocked using one of the methods discussed. Then go and buy a column lock bypass from one of the fine forum vendors, install it, and end your worries.
Take no chances, CLB from Corvettes of Houston, THE CURE! I have an '04, knowing GM, I'm sure I have the same potential problem. I'm not taking the chance!
I jumped the gun when I 1st got my car and let the chevy dealership do the recall. Shortly after the "security light" on my dash just turns on during hard left or right turns and stays on until I turn off the car.
I called the dealership and they wanted $100 to see if their work on the the column recall causes my security light to go off.
