Go ahead....someone tell Audi that they can't win the 24 hours of Lemans (and darn near every other race they entered) with a diesel race car........but you're right, a diesel Corvette just seems wrong.....
It's been done. A friend from high school's dad put a '70s stingray body, and interior on a 4x4 truck frame. Actually looked interesting having a 5 foot high roof line, and 30" mud tires on it. Not to say it had a supercharged big-block in it, and would roast all four tires. I know it pissed off a bunch of vette people around that saw it, but I thought it was interesting.
Monster garage did the "slingray" A 76 corvette with 600hp and big assed tires (used a toyota transfer case and front axle, but it ended up working rather well for it's intended purpose) not to mention the exhaust stacks coming out of the hood were just cool looking.
you guys might change your tune if/when Banks gets his idea working. He's trying to make a dual turbo diesel that redlines between 6000-7000 RPM and claims they will easily make 800hp, also claims the motor should be durable enough for production, everyday car use.
and Pewter Dream is right .... think Audi's pretty happy with their diesel, one of their biggest performance advantages over their competition in endurance racing is they out mileage the field
