I have a 2000 FRC with HUD that needs a windshield.
I spent nearly an hour on the phone with the Glass One reps and their techa and learned that P/N DW1430-GBN (shown above) is for a non-HUD Corvette, though the picture obviously shows the HUD stamping on the windshield.
The correct windshield according to Glass One, their techs, and the Chevy dealer, is P/N DW1514-GBN, which is the HUD glass for 02-04 Z06's. That part alone is $750.
The tech noted that AP does not stamp the P/N on the older windshields and the possible explaination in this thread's case is that maybe the 1430 part was mixed up with an actual HUD piece and you got very lucky (????)

I don't know who's right or wrong anymore.
Well, we both got the same OEM windshield. So I'd say you will have a good chance of getting the same one also.
Was it luck? Was it mislabeled and shipped? I really don't think so ... I think it is a dirty little secret with the Dealers and some auto glass companies. We can mark these windshields up because the owners know it is different than a regular Vette windshield, so they are willing to pay more. At first they didn't want to admit I knew for a fact about the lower price, but I insisted and they capitulated and sold it for the real price. I think I saw someplace that the retail cost of the windshield was around $278.00 (no idea what wholesale is)... so they still made a nice profit.
As far as using your comprehensive insurance, I had a $500 deductible ... so it was cheaper for me paying for it myself. I really doubt the insurance companies are paying anymore than I did to have these windshields replaced. If I found out the truth, you know they already know it.

I talked to a different shop before Glassone, and they were selling the glass for $250 not installed. But they couldn't get the glass, plus they didn't want do the install on a C5. So I paid $320 installed through GlassOne, can't beat that....
with all the "the correct glass is p/n #DW1317 or #DW1514, not the #DW1430...
anyone else? experience? opinions?
WANDERER: i noticed on the first post, you had originally planned to replace the glass with what you thought was non-HUD aftermarket glass. were you simply sacrificing the HUD option if the glass had been what you ordered? or taking a chance perhaps that the HUD would work well even with non-HUD glass?
PV ... you are correct, originally I was going to purchase a non HUD windshield because of the belief a HUD windshield was going to cost at least $1100. Another forum member suggested the NAG # above and stated it should only be around $278. I ordered it and it was the OEM windshield as shown in the photo.
Why would any of you pay full price out of your own pocket for a windshield when your comprehensive insurance covers it? I needed a new glass in my Z. I made sure the glass company was only using factory replacement products. I was told no problem, on expensive cars that's the only way they do it because they don't want headaches with aftermarket products. I had exactly the same correct windshield installed as the one you pictured. It only cost me the $100 deductible. Your premiums won't go up either.
Yup that's what I'm going to do after summer is over.
We just ordered one for our Z. $225 installed jobber. They will check for the HUD markings once it comes out of their wharehouse. Hopefully its the same as the others.

A lot of people don't know that if you ask around you can find an installer who will eat the $100. deductible to get the work. Don't tell your insurance company, though. I haven't paid a cent for the last 3 or 4 windshield replacements on my other vehicles. Try it ... you'll like it.
