Recently, I had the windshield on my 02 Z replaced with what I thought was (an aftermarket - non hud - regular Corvette windshield) for $320.00. After it was installed, to my utter amazement, this is what is labeled on the windshield:
Before I ask that this info be included in Z06 FAQ, could someone that bought their C5Z new and knows the windshield hasn't been replaced, compare this imprint with theirs? I notice that the rear window is made by the same company, so I suspect they also make the OEM windshield for the Z.
There is a huge difference between the $320.00 (installed at the house), and the $1000-$1400 price charged to others. Many people just say, "I paid the deductible and the Insurance paid the rest". Does it make sense that the Insurance industry would pay more for a windshield than your annual total premium cost too often before they bump your rates way up? Everytime you take the Z out for a joy ride, you face the dreaded crack or star problem.
Great information. I need to do the windshield on my '03 (took a rock hit recently). Did you use a local company or was it one of the major "national" firms that do this stuff? If national, can you post the name?

Thanks,

I called a company on the Internet ... turned out they are just a clearinghouse passsing the info on to a local glass company. Call a local good auto glass company and ask them what they will charge for the above listed windshield.
WOW, when you first posted that you had a cheaper windshield, I was thinking no way, I searched, and two local glass shops, and a local dealer told me there were none to be had, and I should just get a coupe windshiled. I persisted and finally found one, through a dealer for 850.00, which was about 300.00 cheaper than anyone else. Anyway, I'm glad for you, and I'm saving this info forever, thanks for not giving up and finding a great price.

Have you guys called and specifically ordered the NAG # posted above? Demand to have them give you the price (installed) for this unit. At first I was told it wasn't available until I insisted, within a few minutes they agreed and the deal was done.
Let me know what happens... in the mean time, I will give you the contact and number who I dealt with when I ordered the windshield ... it was an Internet middleman who contacted the local dealer ... bypass them and save about $100.
Just had the windshield replaced on my 2003 Z06, through insurance....
It comes under Comprehensive and cost me nothing.
I have a $0 deductible and NO your insurance will not increase.
are the moldings re-useable when the windshield is replaced?
considering my full glass coverage will pay the entire invoice, is there any reason to not go to the stealer to get this done? (besides quality of work)
You might call your local auto glass installer. They installed a new little rubber seal on the top of the windshield. Otherwise, they totally cleaned the old sealant off the rubber seal installed on the car, then used three tubes of new sealant all around the rubber seal on the car, reinstalled the new windshield, then put all the molding back on the car. It took about an hour and a half to complete the whole job.
I don't believe the dealership does anything more or less.
Why would any of you pay full price out of your own pocket for a windshield when your comprehensive insurance covers it? I needed a new glass in my Z. I made sure the glass company was only using factory replacement products. I was told no problem, on expensive cars that's the only way they do it because they don't want headaches with aftermarket products. I had exactly the same correct windshield installed as the one you pictured. It only cost me the $100 deductible. Your premiums won't go up either.
I guess they thought my Z was a classic ... that is where I bought my windshield from. Ask for Jason.
Hey, I just want to say thanks. I got a call back from GlassOne and they were able to locate the windshield with a local shop and I got it replaced for only $320 including labor.
And you're right, it's exactly the same as the OEM glass down to the last number. And I held both in my hands, they weighed about the same.
