Searched and searched the forums and can't seem to find any overwhelming choice.
Seems people like the Optima Red Top. Is this a good choice?
What have you all replaced the OEM battery with? Which model of Optima Red Top do I need to purchase?
I drive the car daily. Thanks for your responses!!!!!
Optima Red Top used to be a no-brainer. There have been many stories of newer ones that don't hold a charge. I'm one of them. I have no parasitic battery loss and my Red Top would give slow cranks after only two weeks without being driven. Yes, I fully charged it prior to using. Search for Optima in here and you'll find some threads. I finally gave in and bought OEM Delco at my Chevy dealer and it's been fine.
Thanks for your replies! Has anyone used or is using an Interstate Battery? I checked the product number for the top terminal and it is an MT-86. What do you think about this?
Interstate lasted a year in the Cadillac, I might get flamed but I swear by the Walmart battery (think it is an everstart) I have one in the truck six years, and one in the car five years, I just can not bring myself to pay big bucks for a battery.

A while back, Consumers' Report had an issue on batteries and the Walmart battery was rated very highly, one of the best for the money. Personally, I have two Optimas for different autos and both have been fine. I hope I don't regret saying this, but one is in its second Vette and at 7 years old is still working great.
Never, ever had a problem with Autozone's marquis, the Duralast. They come with 7 year warranties and I've had them in every vehicle I've owned since 16. Cheap too.

Probably made by Interstate or Exide. I believe there's really only about 2 major manufacturers, other than Optima and some boutique brands.

Pretty much any battery will be fine, there is no need for an Optima in this car. Some Optimas are a good choice if your run a lot of high powered accessories, like a huge stereo or a lot of lights.
I'd check for a sale at Sears, Pepboys, or Autozone.
Thanks for all of your responses! I think I found the part number for the Interstate top post. Is it MT-86? Also, I've seen some different part numbers for the Optima Red Top battery. Some list a 75/35. What does this mean??? AND, is this the correct # for the c5?
replaced the perfectly good stock battery in our 04 about 2 months ago. With a perfectly good Duralast from Autozone Just call it preventive maintenance. My wife drives it everyday to and from work.
