Last night and this morning when starting up cold, my RF error message came up that it was low. I checked last night using a manual tire pressure gage and it checked 30lbs added two (32lbs) tire was still warm. This morning I checked again after it again said it was low (25lbs.) and the manual pressure gage read 30lbs. again. Is this the battery giving out? Isn't there something I can do with a magnet to reset.
Tool required (any medium strength magnet, U or Disk type) or the GM J 41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Programming Tool.
1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages.
3. Press and release the OPTIONS button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank.
4. Press and hold the DIC RESET button for 3 seconds.
Notice: Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Cautions and Notices.
5. Press the OPTIONS button again until the TIRE TRAINING message appears.
6. Press the RESET button until the IPC LEARN L FRONT TIRE message appears in order to begin
the programming sequence.
7. Install the J 41760 Tire Pressure Programming Tool over the left front valve stem.
8. The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed.
9. When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order as directed
by the IPC messages:
- LEARN R FRONT TIRE
- LEARN R REAR TIRE
- LEARN L REAR TIRE
Programming Cancellation
1. The programming mode will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are met: - The program mode is exited through the DIC.
- The ignition is turned to OFF.
- All four sensors have been programmed.
- The TPM system has been in the program mode for longer than 2 minutes and no sensors
have been learned.
2. If the program mode is cancelled with less than four codes stored, the receiver will only accept the codes programmed up to that point.
Sounds like the battery is starting to go on that sensor. Gene at gmpartshouse can get you one fast at a great price. As far as the magnet, search for the instructions to re-learn the sensors. It's very easy to do.
I just did all four of mine.(had one go out, did all 4 just because they are 10 years old and are going to go sooner or later) Got the sensors from Gene, had them installed by my tire guy, and re-learned them to the car for under $400.00. Dealer wanted $290.00 to replace just the one.

but it sounds like the battery to me...
Peace

Chip. While I was trying to find the thread, you posted it. You coulda let me know, and saved me all that dam searching for it.
Remember, you must drive your car a short distance to "re-set" and start reading new pressures ! If you just added air to a stationary car and did not drive it, it could be remembering the old pressure.
BTW, you have the old Type I style TPSs in your 2000. They are good for 7-8 years or 100,000 miles. You are near your end of life. If you replace tires soon, it would be wise to replace these.
My many thanks to all. I will try the reset procedure when I get home from work, provided I can hold my breath that long... Raining again like a cow and a flat rock!
The left front sensor on my '01 started doing that late last fall as temperatures started dropping here in Michigan.
By the spring, the sensor was dead....
So based on my experience the battery is starting to fail...
