I have a MN6 01 vert that according to the build sheet was built in September '01. I have not had any issues.

Are you sure it was built in Sep '01? That's strange since they started building the '02's a couple of months before they built your '01.

What the dealership is more than likely going to do is run an oil consumption test on your car first. Depending on how much you drive your car this can be a long, lengthy and often times frustrating process.

Keep us posted,

I bought '01 - 6 speed coupe new in 4/01 and it currently has 18,500 miles. 85% of miles expended with round trips between PA & FL. I added one quart during break-in and have never added any since. I do change my oil every 3,000 miles.

To tell people to stay away from '01s is just pure ignorance. My car is not for sale, and it has been a pleasure to own since day one.

Threads like these continue to pop up from time-to-time. I find the topic confusing because some people claim the problem affects all 2001 Vettes. Some claim it affect just the early model year vehicles and some claim it's limited to MN6 vehicles. I sometimes wonder if the driving habits of some are related to the problem.

There is plenty of evidence it is not as wide spread as some have stated, otherwise, I believe there would have been greater pressure on GM to do more than what they have. There is no question that buyers should carefully check out any vehicle they are considering, however, I wouldn't rule out an 01 because of the general statements being made. But maybe I am biased because I own one even though I have no plans to sell it anytime in the near future.

Or maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. I took delivery of my 01 in Sept. 2000. The car is now highly modified but the block has never been touched. I've never had any oil issues. I don't beat on the car but I've been known to push it from time-to-time. Just my humble opinion.

I guess I'm also one of the lucky ones -- no problems with my '01 (even though I have the A4).
