Default Electrical System Help!!

Good Evening All,

I have been having some weird electrical issues lately and I was hoping one of you might be able to point me in the right direction. I have a 2000 convertible. Yesterday, leaving work, my car struggled for about a second to crank when turning the ignition key. The car ran fine and voltage gage seemed to be at its normal level (at 14v). The next morning the car was completely dead and left me stranded at home. Not even the horn worked when trying to use the FOB. Luckily, I found a ride in to work. Later the same night, after doing nothing to the car, I went out to get something out and noticed that the lights worked again when using the FOB to unlock the doors. I figured I would give it a try again to see if it would start. After struggling for about a second it fired right up. Again, the voltage meter read 14v. Today, I didn't drive it to work, and figured I would clean the battery terminals when I got home tonight. I did find some corrosion, but got them cleaned really well. I went to start it again and it still struggled for a second, but still started. After a few more ignition cycles, I got a message on the DIC that read "low Voltage". I also got the dreaded "pull key and wait 10 seconds" message. Any thoughts of what the problem(s) might be? Could it be the battery or the alternator? I have GMPP, does this need to go in and get looked at?

Sorry for being so long but I am not really familiar with electrical systems of these cars. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

Get a new battery and go from there...sometimes it is the obvious solution that solves the problem.

If its the original battery think no more.

Get straight out and buy a new one yesterday. The older AC Delcos are renowned for leaks and if you're already seeing corrosion you're on borrowed time. The computers are under the battery tray and leaks can cause major damage.

All the symptoms sound like classic Dead AC Delco to me. A new battery and my guess is you'll be fixed.

I had similar issues even after charging the original battery; very strange operations and messages. A new battery solved everything.

I have a 2000 vert also. Yours sounds like a problem that I've experienced and the dealer can't seem to solve. It may not be the battery. Once in a while, at random, when I turn the key the Security light comes on and when I turn the key the dashboard goes dead. It acts as though the security system thinks the car is being stolen. I've tried both keys, tried cleaning the chip contacts on the key, and a few other things. It seems that if I wait a few minutes the car eventually starts. The dealer put the car on the computer and it shows nothing wrong with the security system. Since our cars are the same, I'm wondering if it's not some inherent glitch in our model year.
