Default 03z vs 06z Pros/Cons

What the major difference in these cars? aside from hp! What can be done to a stock 03z to match the numbers of the 06z? How many car lengths would a c6z beat an 03z in 1/4 mile with decent driver? Please note any info. Thanks guys!

Stock vs. stock, an 06-7 Z runs about 11.6-12.0, and a stock '02-4 Z runs about 12.4-12.7. This would hint the power difference stock would be about 70-100 HP, but of course there's lots of variables, such as traction, and maybe most of all driver skill.

MONEY- you could have 2 slightly used C5z06's for the price of one C6z.

Actually, an 06 will go 11.2-11.4 and a 02-04 will go 12.0-12.4.

Thanks guys for the times. What kind of things can be done to the c5z to catch up power wise to the 06z? I have a full air intake and will be putting on a b&b bullet exhaust system shortly. What else would need to be done (possibly without voiding my warranty). Alan, thanks for the height advice, i am 6'3" as well and find my head rubbing the roof on my c5z a little. Thanks again guys!

If you don't want to void warranty, you can do cold air intake and full exhaust, everything else should be "hidden" like getting head work done instead of head replacement, a "mild" cam, and a tune with a tuner that can put the stock tune back in before and warranty work is diagnosed..............this should get you close to a stock C6Z.......but remember all he needs is exhaust and a tune and your standing still again................no replacement for displacement

It probably more fair to say:
c6Z 11.2-11.6
c5Z 11.7high - 12.1
good driver/good air

And your a c5z owner, shame on you. lol

I've owned both. They are too different animals as you might well guess. The new Z has lighter steering and clutch effort which I don't particularly like, but the seats are way better. The old Z's brakes have better initial "bite" which I also liked. The gearing in the new Z is awesome with a lot less shifting required. 126mph in 3rd gear is a blast!. And don't forget the huge difference in top speed. As far as prices go, the demand has created the huge disparity between the two cars. My 04'Z had a MSRP of about 54k where the first year 06's were only 68k MSRP. not a big difference considering the two year seperation. Best thing to do is drive the new one.

The way I see it, the big difference is money. You will have a hard time achieving C6Z06 numbers while maintaining your warranty.

If you have the change and want to spend it, I would get the C6 Z06 in a heartbeat.

For $3k you can mod the '03 enough to get half way to the C6 Z06 power wise. Of course, the torque of the '06 is different in character as are a lot of other tangibles/intangibles. I would love to get a new Z06 but I would not feel particularly comfortable on the roadcourse with that much investment. I have all the fun I can handle with my '03.

A $500 N20 kit will do the trick...you could toss one on your car in 3-4 hours and leave a c6 Z standing still

driver skill is a big part too....i've walked all over a 500whp 07 Z06 simply b/c he couldnt' drive

i run 11.9's with K&N filter and drag radials in my 03

Hows the C6Z around a road course compared to the C5Z? Going fast in a straight line is only fun for so long.

How much do dealers mark up a new Z compared to building one on chevrolet.com? I've never seen one at a dealer.

Is there any change since the 08 C6 got a little bump in power?

C6Z is faster on the long straights, the few that there are on road corses. The C5Z is far supperior on cornering and corner speeds. Stock for Stock the C5Z is faster then the C6Z on most road courses.

Now when the C5Z T1 suppension os put on the C5Z and the C6Z T1 suppension is put on the C6Z the C5Z is much faster on lap times; cornering speeds dramticly increase with the C5Z, and only slightly Increase with the C6Z. The is a new rear T1 swaybar out for the C6Z, which has helpped corning. 3rd or 4th design now.

The C6Z has corner handling problems at high speeds. ie it pushes like a pig in corners. it just does not turn in well. Smaller tires in the rear have helped. going down to 18x315s in the rear and 18x 285 front or 18x335 rear and 18x305 front has help the C6Z turn in much quicker plus cornering stabilty. The 19x345 are way too big especilly with the much smaller 18x275s or 18x285s up front. Too much of a difference on the stock verson for a road course.

The C6Zs TPM are another challange. The alarm keeps going off with the tires pressuers gets up to opperating pressure and temps.

a few ppl have made devices to hold the TPMs in a pressurezed tube in the center of the car and run wheels without the TPM and this has helpped with the tire pressure and temp issues.

The few other issues are the related to the oil. Remove the large screen in the bottom of the oil tank, remove the carbon filter in the mas and run about 3/4 to 1 qt less for a road course. This ends any blow by and keeps the oil pressuire UP in high speed sweeping corners.

for the C5Z, over heating is a major issue. The C5Z needs an trans cooler, oil cooler and accu-sump. Once the C5Z cooling issues are delt with the car is very quick.
Without the sump, the LS6 motor can still see oil starvation issues on high speed sweepers. and we all know what oil starvation even for a few seconds can do. BANG.

HTH

I love my C5Z but for you to say it's faster around the road course then you are highly mistaken

1 example

Nurburgring lap times

Porsche Carrera GT 7:32
Mercedes-McLaren SLR 7:40
Corvette Z06 (c6) 7:42
Porsche 996 GT2 7:42
GT2 7:46
Jaguar XJ220 7:46
Lamborghini Murciélago 7:50
Lamborghini Gallardo 7:52
GT3 - New 7:54
Corvette Z06 (c5) 2004 7:56

it's been provin many many times the C6Z is faster around the course than the C5Z

sorry to burst your bubble.
