Don't set the e-brake when stopped with hot rotors or you can melt some pad onto your rotors and you'll end up with pulsing brakes. For the same reason, try not to even use your regular brakes on hot rotors when at a complete stop.
I used to always set the e-brake. Stopped setting it after getting that advice just to break the habit of setting it.
I always use it on any hill, but on a flat surface i do not. When i had my 85 with a richmond 6 spd i always used it on a manual, not so much on an auto. When this tranny goes i intend on putting a 6 spd in this as well then im sure i'll be using it more than.
I use it at all times in all my vehicles. If you knew how small the Park latch was inside the transmission you would too. Holding a 3000# + car with a 1/4" X 1/4" X 1/8" piece of metal is spooky! Also, if you ever get bumped in a parking lot, besides the body damage you could be looking at a transmission teardown.
Precisely. When I was a GM mechanic (33 years ago!) I used to overhaul auto trannies. There isn't much metal holding the car in one place. Like you say - a nudge could wreck a tranny. I always use it if others could bump me or I'm on any kind of a grade. I don't use it in my garage. It just makes mechanical sense to me but then I don't remember any parking pawls failing either.

I agree, I always set the parking brake no matter what, and I am a automatic. I would much rather replace the brake pads more often then the part that holds the car back within the transmission. It's double coverage for when my beast is asleep. I don't like sleepwalking
I don't in any other automatic car, but for some reason I always do in the Vette. Sports car habit transfer. On a hill, definitely. Maybe it's because I went through all of the butt pain to fix the e-brake and now I like to use it!!
