If bought new (or even used for that matter), corvette owners payed a good amount of money for their C5. Why then do some of us (Including me) make them a garage queen? I keep saying to myself that my wife and I are going to use them (we have 2) a lot more than we do but it never happens.
Probably because you know how much you paid for them. The other is they are so damn good lookin' you would hate to have anything happen to them while they were out on the road there are many idiots out there and they all seem to congregate around nice cars and ram their doors into them. I had a 2005 Mustang GT, got it when they first came out, and I swear no matter where we parked it, somebody made it a point to park their car as close as possible. The car had three dings in before we got rid of it. just my 2 cents
I have owned mine for almost 6 years. When I had extra cars the C5 stayed in the garage. Now its down to my wife and the Montana and me and the Vette. Take it almost anywhere including the stores, Sam's Club and to and from work. Have gotten a few dings but I do DRIVE it not stare at it and go OOOOOOOOOOOOH and AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
If you keep it in the garage and only drive it like Ferris Buhlers dad then you are wasting a lot of depreciation which could have been driving. BIGHANK
There are different degrees of garage queens. I do not worry about how many miles I put on the car. I bought the car for me and could care less about what is may be worth someday if I ever sell it. I do put it away for the winter. From Spring thru Fall, I will drive it on every nice day. I do not drive it if roads are wet or there is a threat of rain mainly because it takes so damn long to wash it. I want to be driving it and not always cleaning it. (OK..I will confess that I dust the interior, dust the exterior, clean the chrome exhaust tips, and wipe down the rims at the end of every day that I drive her..Only takes 10 minutes...Can't explain why other to say that I LOVE IT when she is clean clean clean!!!!) PS: She's black (I've been told she will look real bad if dirty....never seen that! )
EZED
In the back of everyones mind and/or what we told the significant other to justify the purchase...this is an investment...I want to protect it for a future sale.

I bought mine to drive it, so I do Have a couple buddies that hardly ever drive em and are always complaining that they have to recharge their batteries, told them to sell it if you aren't enjoying it!
I know why you don't drive your c5 much. The same reason as ours we hate cleaning those CCWS after
This probably makes the most sense and is the best logical explanation. A corvette should never be driven dirty - the more you drive it the more you have to clean it.
For me, I drive it all the time and clean it all the time. If you are cleaning and maintaining it constantly, it doesn't matter how many miles it has on the clock. If it looks great it will always command a good resale price.
I have to constantly guard against the garage queen thing. I don't want to put a scratch on it but I had an 88 that I sold because I never drove it. That's not going to happen with this one, I drive it everywhere. I'm just real careful where I park it.

After reading the responses so far, I think this one applies to me except for the resale price. I clean it and clean it and then clean it some more. Everytime I take either one out, the next day they get washed and waxed. Don't worry about resale value since once I am gone, they go to my kids.
In another response it was mentioned about not liking to clean the CCW's -- not a problem at all, they are chrome.
i guess you are saving for someonelse to enjoy i used to think it was neat to say my 99 only had x-amount of miles , people used to be concerened about keeping them original , numbers matching and so on . it will be worth more money in about 35 years so i will be about 90 so why save them for someone else get out and drive the damn thing
Because of garage queen owners when I purchase my next Vette it will be easy finding a near perfect Vette
I was so pleased to find my 99 last year with only 22k on her........looked like she had a charmed life and now she is mine to drive every day.........even in the rain
Many of us purchased a vette as a weekend toy. We have other cars to drive daily so why put the miles/wear on the vette? I also agree that a vette need to stay as clean as possible and that’s hard to do with a daily driver. If a vette owner likes to keep the car in the garage most of the time - then that’s fine - if that is was makes them happy – they paid for it. I will drive my vette sometime for a full week - wash it - then just take it out on nice weekends for a couple of months straight. I only average 5000 miles a year and that’s fine by me.
I think a low mile helps a well maintained car – no matter what make or model. If you have two cars that are the same year and same options - then I would pick the one with the lowest miles (if all else is equal) and if it was exceptionally low miles for the year then I would pay a little more (maybe a lot depending on car/miles).
