I took off just that part of the mld that is in the vent area and left the door one on. My avatar is an older photo. I can try to post a photo if needed.
I like it either way. My car didn't come with it so I am not going to pay more for it. But I heard people who have them and take them off sometimes get a good price for them in the parts section.

I actually like the look of the BSM (Body Side Moulding).
Everyone feels differently so if you don't like it, take it off. Best done with a heat gun and some dental floss so I have read. Do a search and you'll find some good tips on how to do it.
A number of people have told me how easy this is with floss and a heat gun. However, an equal number of people have also told me to make sure you properly remove each inch. Do NOT get in a hurry, think this is easy and grab a piece of the molding and pull. It WILL come off but it will bring paint with it. Finish it correctly and you'll be fine.
This is one of those topics on the forum that brings out the strong views. Surprisingly polls show that the likes vs dislikes are split about 50/50
with the other posters that the advice seems to be take them off slowly using a heat gun or hair dryer and dental floss or fishing line. Most members seem to get them off cleanly (and have even managed to sell them afterwards )
Main thing to check is that you haven't had a door repair. One member got his off and found that there was a line where a body shop had resprayed without taking the BSM off.
I love the look of the side trim. Both my C5 verts came with it from the dealer. If they didn't I would have had them install it anyway. Hey...different strokes for different folks.
A car looks 10x cleaner without it. I hate to say it, but for a long time I didn't even notice it, until I started seeing cars without it and kept wonder why I liked them so much more.
