I like your idea and the hole drilling idea because I got gigged for the exposed seals in a car show (stock class). So, I removed them.
There is always a better mouse trap!
..rickko..
How can they gig you for that? They're supposed to show!

Good luck. I was only able to find them in gray and white at Lowes. By the way, if you buy the "tear drop" style rubber, they'll fit easily into the tail light housing.

Here is what I bought Frost King extreme weather seal 3/8" by 1/4" thick 17 ft was about $6
FYI,
This same D weatherstrip in Black makes a nice front hood seal.
Just run it along the top edge of the front clip edge.
When the hood closes, it makes a good seal for water and dirt.
Cool idea. I may have to pick some up just to give it a try.
because GM didn't :-)
water can flow past the tail lights and collect there. when you wash your car you will notice that after drying for hours water always keeps reappearing behind the lights making you continuously redry that area. since there's no way to clean behind there easily, the water that keeps running back out is always dirty and keeps the back of your car dirty. It won't really hurt anything, but the seals fix the problem.
Hey MC, doesn't the water still get under the tail lights after you did this? I don't understand how you're able to keep the water out when doing it the way you did.
I was thinking that if you did BOTH what MC and slverc5 did that you get the benefit of the lens moving up a 1/4" or so (if you like that look - which I do) and by the lens moving up, the seal in "the crevice" will fit a little better as the fit would not be so tight (careful now guys!). Rather than silcone I would use Armour All - makes things slippery and protects the rubber at the same time (more careful, my bad....)

I went to lowes and I couldn't find this stuff. Where do they keep it? I was looking at the weatherstripping area and they had no frost king products at all.

Found the "sound deader" products on left side as you enter, behind lawn mowers and with the vent material. The tape you are looking for however, is to the right about 3/4 way down the store (toward lumber).
It is located with home weatherstripping and insulation. Good luck
Tom
Addition: It's on aisle 14 or close

I found some at Tru-Valu hardware store. But all they had was brown. I got it anyway since the light will cover it. Does anyone think I can paint a strip of it black to use for a "performance hood seal"?
If so, what sort of paint should i use that won't run if wet? Enamel?
Great mind must run in the same rut...(I've only had my C5 a couple of months)while I was driving the other day the thought crossed my mind about drilling a hole so the water can drain,,BAM here it is in a post. Thanks for confirming the concept. There's nothing under there but the bumper structure and the mufflers that I can think of.

After my original post, other than not wanting to drill a hole in their cars, I still don't see why everyone wants to spend money for seals that aren't needed. Five minutes with a cordless drill and your done, for free! Just my.02.
