That's total ! Do what the other guys in the forum said and pull up to that POS salesman in your brand spanking new Vette and ask him "serious enough for you, d!ckhead?"
Dealerships that are consumer friendly should have one test vehicle for perspective buyers. That way they can keep their stock with zero miles and still allow the customers to experience the rides of their lives....
A win win for both parties. Appointments can be made if a couple different clients want to test drive the same day.
It doesn't take that much effort to go all the way........
I sell cars and I don't like to let people just try high end cars. I try to find out why your there, if there really is no chance your going to buy a particular vehicle then why should we put miles on a car your not going to buy, I don't think it's fair to the vehicles next owner. If you were shopping for a C6 and you knew it went out on a bunch of test drives where it was likely run hard everytime because people wanted to "see what it could do", would you still want that car, I wouldn't. Sorry if this upsets people, but you should only test drive cars when your serious about making a purchase in the very near future. In fact I hate the phrase "test drive", it should be a "confirmation drive" when your looking at a high end car, meaning you have the ability and desire to purchase the car.
I agree, you don't want a bunch of people driving a used C6 or high end car, hard and 'just seeing what it could do'. But then again, around here that seems to be exactly what the dealership employees and owners do based on the amount of cars I see driving like that with dealer plates fastened on them.
I always sell my vettes privately and the only test rides are with me in the car. First person always bought my vette. Super clean cars.
My other cars are typically sold to family and friends with no test drives- including the friendly sheriff next door.
Once when I went into a dealer with my wife (we are in our late 40's) My wife was looking at a Grand Prix for her 50th birthday the salesman insisted on being in the car with us and then told me I could only turn right because the dealership had too many accidents. I got back to the dealership, left and went down the street and bought a new Eldorado's off the floor. I did drive a demo first.
Just for laughs I went with a friend to a dealer when he was looking for a new car. Went for a ride with my friend driving and the salesman kept saying what a fast car it was and it had great handling and for my friend to push it. After about 5 minutes of this I asked my friend to pull over and let me drive. He got in the backseat with a smile and buckled up. The salesman kept his color until I did the high speed lane changes. What a hoot! Bet he never said push it again to a customer.
what a bunch of crapola.
You show up in a C5 and they won't let you drive a C6.
I would be walking out of that dealer now. The only reason I would ever return would be to show him my new C6 I purchased elsewhere.
sounds to me (i know i am gonna catch alot of flack from this) but some people need to get over the you cant drive that car BS. if you cant drive it dont buy it. for a salesman to tell me i cant drive it i am not gonna buy it from a chevette to a corvette. the test drive is a very importent part of the sale. probably half the people who are on the fence about a vette after the test drive they are ready to sign. maybe like was suggested the dealer has one available for a drive but something dont let them push you around there are a whole lot of dealers out there.
man, thats crazy... I am 22 years old, wore my jeans with some nice big holes on the knees and flip flops, when i went in to test drive a C6. I even told a sales guy that i am not even looking at the C6 i want a C5Z which they didnt have of course, but he insisted that i test drive this C6 to see if he can change my mind... I literarly was pushed into this test drive... It didnt change my mind, but the car was pretty nice, was an automatic targa top and i was looking for a stick so no way in hell it was going to work out, plus the price tag was about 8k more then i was going to spend.
I find it odd that a dealer was giving you lip about test driving a car... me and my friend test drove just about all the cars in the price range from M3 to STI subaru to C300 SRT8 and all I had to do was just look at the car and i was offered a test drive...
My brother is 17, and just started his senior year this past week. My Dad told him he would buy him a new car for graduation so he went to the ford dealer and drove a roush mustang. He then went across the street to the chevrolet dealer to drive a C6. The salesman told him he couldn't drive the car, but he could sit in it. Since he has driven my C5 many times and loves corvettes, all he needed was to sit in a new one. Dad bought him a C6 a few days later from a different dealer.
Actually I like that idea. If I were to buy a car from a dealer it would be nice to know it was not test driven by 20 people who did not care about it.
I had and sold a C1. C2. C3 and several C4's and never once did the person who bought it test drove it before he gave me the money to hold while he had the signed title to hold. All I need was to have some idoit damage or wreck the car and then just walk away with a "I'm sorry".
I also have to say that the reason I sold these Corvettes to the very first person who saw the car was because they were in PERFECT condition and I knew if they were serious they would have no reason not to buy it. I did not want to have some guy who just wanted to have a fun day of driving different Corvettes to miss a shift, burn up the clutch or wreck it.
I always said that after they drove the car they could get their money back when I got the title back if they did not like the car.
I think this was totally fair and the cars looked so good I never had a complaint. If they really were serious why should it be a problem? They knew the color and options before they came over, if the car was perfect they had nothing to complain about. They could drive it to their mechanic if they wanted to but none did. Even my 75,000 mile '85 Z51 Corvette which I got $13,500 3 years ago was absolutely like new-you would have to see it to believe a 20 years old car could look so good with original factory paint, etc.
I went to Reliable Chevy in the Dallas area to look at their used C6's and to test drive a manual to see how it compares to my C5. I explained this to the salesman. His response was there is no comparison. I asked if I could take one out and he said no, their policy is that the vettes can only be taken out if the buyer is very serious. What a load of
My next vette used or new will be bought elsewhere.
I did not read all the replies on this but I went to this same dealership when the C5 hit the showroom. I was 45 years old and with my wife. I inquired about a test drive and was told that there was NO test drive on the new Vettes.???? I don't give a damn what the car cost or reputation is. If I can't test drive it (have a confirmation drive) I'm NOT buying it. Never been back to that dealership since. Oh, and I own a C5 plus three other cars.
