I just recently bought mine to commute in. I drive 120 miles a day, or more, at least 4 days a week. So far the Vette has been fantastic. I should have bought one 5 years ago. The seats are very comfortable, the mileage isn't bad, the ride is excellent, the air works great, and I look great driving it. It's a win/win/win/win situation.
I have only driven vettes to work, about 50 miles round trip, every day since 1993. I drove my C4 for 12 years and 165000 miles. This was followed by my C5 which is still strong and problem free at 70000 miles. I also take my C3 once or twice a week cause its so damn much fun to hear the exhaust, little rattles, and actually drive it. Vettes are great drivers! Its like having a small vacation to n from work. I wouldn't be comfortable in an suv , econobox or mindless luxxury cruzer.
I drive about a 100 miles a day, and yes there is a downside to using it this way.
You have to wash it alot more, sometimes every day.
Texas is a very Vette friendly climate. I have a '98 Malibu as a second car but I hardly ever drive it. If I lived in on the East Coast, up North or anywhere else that caught a lot of ice and snow I would never even consider driving my Vette on a daliy basis. I'm a single parent of a 14 y/o daughter so I don't have to have a "practical" vehicle. The Vette is all I need
Drive mine almost everyday in the summer (convertable), take it to San Diego from LA on business a few times a month. BMW 745 and Tahoe get the LA commute grind.
This is my second vette. Both have been daily drivers. The C5 is much more comfortable, great AC, good gas mileage, fun to drive. If you have a bad day at work, the drive home makes up for it. Los Angeles weather allows me to drive my vette year round. It doesn't rain much, never snows, and when it gets over 100F, the AC makes the ride comfortable. You do sit a little low in traffic, and so you have to drive defensively as people in SUV's don't always look when they change lanes. I buy vettes to drive, not to sit in my garage. If I can drive it every day, I do.
Not only is the Vette a great sports car, it's a great Grand Touring car...very comfortable. Great gas mileage and lots of room in the "trunk" for your stuff. There's no other car quite like it!
I dirve mine daily, much easier at the pump than my jeep. Not to mention it's much more fun to drive.
It is after all a 40-50k car, not a Lambo!
For those garage queens consider this: I saw a post of someone buying a 2001 with 800 miles for $30,000. The first owner lost perhaps $20,000 to have a car in his garage, cost him $25/mile.
Driving your vette every day in the rain is no different than any other car. Make sure your body and cowl drains are clean. Make sure your grounds are clean. Make sure any loose wires are secured and all wireties are tight but not chafing the wires they hold. Ain't no different than any other car or truck.
