I have a stock M12 with a B&M shifter, and for the first time missed 5th and found reverse - at 70mph. You can imagine the horrible grind that was to be. This got me thinking......do these transmissions have a reverse lockout? If so, is my solenoid shot?
I'm not sure but I think if you installed a 1st to 4th bypass switch that disables the reverse lock out selenoid.
This is not true. The CAGS defeat has nothing to do with the reverse lock-out.
The reverse lock-out solenoid is located on the upper passenger side of the transmission. When activated it prevents shifting into reverse at speed. You can overpower it if you press real hard, takes 2 hands for the average Vette driver. The solenoid can go bad, it also has a fuse in the engine compartment near the battery. To test it start the car and back up. If it is bad you will not be able to shift into reverse.

The reverse lockout solenoid is separate from the skip shift solenoid. One should not affect the other, unless you connected the skip shift bypass to the wrong solenoid!
I too found reverse once at ... digits and it was not nice at all. I yanked it back so fast I only heard hell for less than a second (it seemed like an eternity), Now on occasion I have hold reverse as I start to go and then it pops right in. This is on my to do/check list...
