Hit And Run =-(
I am in a situation where I'm in california and my drivers licence is expired (just my licence thats all everything else is good) I have a temp photo card on its way from the dmv until I can get back to pennsylvania
I am scared to file a claim because a police report will result in me having to present my expired drivers licence and then a chance of questionning why I am in cali with my pennsylvania vette. I dont want to lose my penn licence until I am more financially stable as I'm paying $80/mth in insurance and trading over to cali plates will double my insurance and also I will have to pay the hefty registration fee I believe I heard someone payed $1200.
one situation complicates another =(
yes the back 1/4 panel and corner of the door.
I'm going to install my viper car alarm and keep it on silent so the next time so (*&*(^ hits my car I will be out in the parking lot VERY quickly with my camera phone in hand.
what are your opinions on this ?
thank you for your responses and your stories it is helping me deal with this (as I dont have a lot of money at this time in my life its a huge deal)

But it all depends on the insurance company claims adjuster - and how they choose to handle it. Personally, I would believe that it will fall under the collision coverage and more than likely be subject to that deductible.
As far as the O.P. situation with an "expired" D/L - I would still file the claim with the insurance carrier and let them determine how best to handle the claim.....it is their money!
I had someone back into my '73 Vette years ago. I didn't find out about it until the next day when it was light. I don't remember how the insurance co. handled it. Talk to the adjuster, most of them will work with you.
Hope everything works out for you.
The exemption might be if there is injury or a fatality which doesn't apply with the given facts.
This occurred in a parking lot, which is private property. Most PDs don't take reports of private property accidents unless they do so as a "courtesy" (w/ no enforcement) to the public, otherwise they'd be taking reports for every door ding. Without a state law to enforce, the PDs (under these same circumstances) might have to tell the victim to file a claim with their insurance company.
Insurance companies tell their clients that they require PD reports, but state law (or lack of) supersedes insurance company "policy". The "policy" is to keep their clients "honest" by filing a PD report.
As far as the expired drivers license issue, that would probably be more of an issue for the insurance company since it couldn't be proven w/o admission by the driver. Some insurance companies might use an expired license or registration, driver criminal acts, or which way the wind is blowing to minimize their responsibility.
It's not wise to be driving anywhere on an expired drivers license though.
Here's the CA motor vehicle code regarding leaving the scene of an accident. Read it and see if there is anything that might apply to the facts given. Maybe a CA LEO will provide more information about the state statutes...

With these circumstances and under this CA statute, it would appear that a report can not be made to a law enforcement agency...

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

No note nothing just a (*&(*& up corvette.
I have had some bad luck lately and this has made me lose complete hope and trust in people.
cant go through insurance, as deductable and then raise in premium will be just as bad as paying cash.
I'm so disappointed in people.
what is the rear fender called. I cant even find oem or the part name.
You are looking at some expensive damage, I hope you called a LEO, and filed a report. Then file a claim, they can't raise your rates unless you have made a lot of claims in the last couple of years. In that case, fix it, shop for new coverage, then ditch the company. I shop for insurance EVERY two years, and save money every time!
John
If they raise your premium, ditch the insurance company, shop around, insurance companies are very competitive!!

It's good to get the facts on insurance coverage rather than hope you are covered when you are not. You may be putting yourself in the position of having no insurance when you really need it. If you can't afford it at least you know what to expect if you have another accident, and my .02 is you shouldn't be on the public roads if you don't have a licence and know you are covered by insurance.

no cameras in the lot and yes I left but no L.A. police man is going to come to the scene they will probably tell me to just report it ad a collision center.
where do you guys recommend to get a rear left (drivers side) 1/4 panel for a 98 coupe?
thank you again for your info!

No thanks.

Makes me not want to leave the house.

I got wacked in the door 3 years ago, at least the guy came and got me. That's tough.
