Remote stops working
My remote stops working sometimes and I have to reset it to the car (press both lock and unlock together for 10 secs) and then the horn bips and the remote is fine for a day or so. Does this mean the battery is stuffed or is the remote itself stuffed. Thanks

do u have this remote on your 1970 coupe?
Your profile says you have a 1970 coupe. Is that what your remote is for? Is it a large hammer to break open the glass to get in?
Seriously if you have a C5 from 97-00 the remotes are EXPEN$IVE.
If it is an 01-04 they are cheap. Mine started losing sync and I changed the battery. Didn't fix it. Got some used ones on fleebay.

The car is a 99 FRC. I have updated my profile, sorry about that. I figured it should have been right as my avatar shows the 73 vert, rather than the 70 coupe.
I will get a new battery and see if that helps. I can't imagine why it would loose sync so often, maybe the battery will help. I will get another remote, but as you say they are expensive. $90 is the best I have seen for a new one. That was from one of the sponsors but they do not appear to want to send stuff down under. I will keep looking.

remote
For your 99 you want to get one with FCCID AB00216T. Either the passive one you now have or a non passive one from a 00 will work.
I hate the passive fn anyway. If on and I'm in the kitchen the car clicks itself to death. I'm using 2 passive and one non-passive on my 98. Got em on fleebay for about $65 at that time. Look there and see if there are any but make sure they will take em back if defective. Our cars can have up to 3 remotes. 1 2 and 3 BIGHANK

Your remote is showing classic signs of failure. First you clean the contacts and get a new battery. Then after 1 day it loses its memory again
The FOB is no good. They just go bad, do a search.
You need to suck it up and buy a NEW one......not a used one where you will be taking your chances on getting one that "works" just like yours. Trust me, been there.

My remotes did the same thing. I cleaned the contacts and replaced the batteries. Same thing, after a couple of days. Wouldn't work.
I then started the training procedure from the beginning, matching FOBs to the Vette, then training. Since then, about a year ago, they have worked just fine. Don't know why, but they are still working.

Thanks for all the advice. I will get a new one. The used ones are not much cheaper. I saw new ones for $90 at one of the sponsors on this forum.

Could be either the battery or the remote itself. Change the battery and see if it keeps in sync with the car. If it loses the sync again, you may just have to replace the fob. I had a similar problem and ended up being the fob.

Just thought I would add that I went right back to the beginning with the FOB and had the car recognize it (via DIC), rather than just a re-sinc. The FOB has been fine for the last 3 days after I had the car recognize it whereas if I had just done a re-sinc, it would drop out after a short time (hours). I have not replaced the battery or anything else.
This may help some of you guys with FOB problems.
Thanks again for all of your suggestions and assistance.

I used a key when they both died for a little while
I decided that a new remote was CHEAPER than a door switch rebuild.
The more you use it the FASTER it WEARS OUT.
Only true with electromechanical parts...
Thank goodness. BIGHANK
