I just replace my Delco battery today in my 04 Z06.
It had a 7YR battery that was replaced under warranty in 2004.
Yesterday it started fine. This morning I turn the key and dash says Low Voltage. I check the voltage on the battery and it is 10 volts, so there is no way it is going to start the car.
The bad news is the 7YR battery only lasted 3 years.
The good news is I got a new $140 battery for free!
I'm sure its not the best - but the Walmart Everlast battery has a 9 year warranty with the first 3 years a swap. Used them for years, no hassle, no testing BS- just a new battery when I want one. Just put a new one in this year when the AC delco crapped out.
I understand the battery leakage issue if the electrical system malfunctions but you should look under the hood occasionally.
If you think an Optima is expensive its cheap compared to my $1,000.00 Walmart battery. Been trying to collect since July 7th for damages caused by acid haven't seen a penny yet and probably won't. I now have a clear understanding of how Walmart operates.
I use red top Optima in both our current Vettes just because of the possible damage from wet batteries. My Grand National has the battery in the trunk, so Optima there as well. Never any problems as long as you keep a battery tender plugged in since these cars are driven infrequently and stored for months at a time. I found Optima a good choice for my old highly moded C3 '78 25th Anniveray as it used to break plates in the batteries 4-5 times a year. Optima cured that problem.
The 2500 454 Suburan 4x4 uses two Delco batteries since day one, along with our 2001 Saturn SL2 tow car, no problem and long life, particulary in sub-zero weather here in Oregon.
I'll stay with what works for me but I believe CR's report to be accurate.
