Hello guys. Just contacted a local stealership here in Tallahassee and asked them about purchasing a GMPP for my '03 coupe. The guy emailed me and said that since I didn't purchase the car from them, they would not offer me a GMPP. He told me I could sell the car to them, then buy it back from them, then I would have a warranty, but would incur all sorts of dealer-related taxes. I told him "no thanks." I've heard that some members have purchased GMPP's from Ken Fitchner. Would this be a good route for me to pursue? I should have known these hicks here would be of no help whatsoever....anyway, any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can only get it if the original warranty is still intact.
You can only get it if the car is currently under warranty or an existing GMPP. I believe you can "extend" or renew a GMPP one time. Dennis Fichtner is a great guy to work with. Give him a call. Good luck.
I've always wondered if there was anyone else on here in Tallahassee...
I would imagine there are several of us on this forum? Know of any really good vette mechanics around these parts? I'm pretty sure I'll be taking the vette up to Thomasville for any repairs/maintenance that she might need in the future. My experiences with the stealerships here have been pretty dismal. They love to try to empty your wallet, that's for sure.
I'm actually a future Vette owner. I'm hoping to get one around the first of the year. Since I'm up here for school, I have all the work on my car done by our mechanic back in my hometown of Brooksville. He's much more reasonably priced than any dealership and does better work. I had a power steering leak and took my car to one of the Firestone dealers up here in town since they are open on the weekend and they wanted almost $500 to fix it.

Absolutely correct.....once it's out of factory original warranty, no GMPP. You can purchase a used car GM warranty, but only at the time of purchase and after going thru a dealer inspection/certification.

Funny, I just bought a new 48 month GMPP on a 2002 that was well out of warranty but still covered by the original GMPP that was purchased when the car was new. This means my 2002 will be extended well into the year 2011.
I think GM reserves the right not to issue a GMPP on this basis (depending on the known service history of a car) but can and will issue them at their discretion so long as there is at least 90 days remaining on an existing GMPP. Contact Dennis Fichtner.
