Default HID lighting

So.. ive been thinking about the HID upgrade for a while, and recall seeing posts which listed decent kits on flebay for around the 150's. I did a seach today and found quite a few, but just over 100. they even say "proven by CF members".

are these the same kits that others have installed? why so cheap?

I know that ive read the 6000k are the whitest and the brightest, but i was thinking about the 8000's. i like the hint of blue, but dont want to sacrifice a whole lot of brightness.

those of you that have switched.. what did you go with and what do you think of them? Thanks. Dave

those are the kits I have, they are awesome! that seller offers great service, they are close to plug and play (you have to mount the ballasts) well worth it!

Not sure if its the same guy I bought from, but I got hit with $50 shipping and handling.

Anyway, a PIA to install, the bulbs were hard to get seated. The stock bulbs have the 90deg bend and the wiring socket on the bulb which gives you a little leverage to turn the bulb. These do NOT and I had to get a very small set of pliers on it to turn them so they would seat. Next each bulb has its own ballast, and mounting it is a big hassle, I still have not fully installed mine...

But, WOW do they light up. I've only had them on for three days and it is great. No on coming cars have flashed me yet so I'm thinking they are aimed right. They are a HUGE improvement, a lot more than I expected, and the light pattern is a lot better than I expected.

I got the 4300k because I wanted as much light as possible, not sure what they look like on coming yet. They appear to me to be slightly blue though... Maybe its just me LOL

Not sure about bulb life, that could be a killer.

I've been reading so much about these here that I decided to just go ahead and do it. A seller with that many feedbacks and 100% rating says alot. Thanks to all the other posters for the ballast mounting threads. Cant wait to get them!

I bought the 6000K and rank them as my best mod to date
The install was not tough, but the bulbs are more difficult to seat than stock as previoulsy identified.

6000k have a "hint of blue". 8000k are a very strong blue and are a bit too much in my opinion.

I'd strongly recommend the ones from Corvette Garage- the true projectors that are around $700-800ish, not the cheap $200 ones you get off ebay.

[QUOTE=Dmeech;1562152448]************removed non supporting vendor link*************
thanks for all the input. i will certainly look into them, however i do like a slight hint of blue. not for any kind of show reason, but just because i love the way it looks from an oncoming vehicle.

and too the guy above this post, i would love to go for the best set on the market, but im afraid my budge wont all for almost a grand on new lights. maybe someday, ha.

By way of reminder...........

Supporting vendors pay for the considerable bandwidth charges on the Forum, making it free for the rest of us. In exchange, they get the privilege of using the Forum to market and promote their goods and services.

Forum members are welcome to sell a Corvette or Corvette parts they purchased for their own personal use. Anything else is considered to be a commercial sale.

No links or reference to eBay sales, please. If the sale is appropriate for the Forum, post it on the Forum, rather than linking to it elsewhere.

Members are not prohibited from mentioning it when they have a good (or bad, for that matter) experience with a non-supporting vendor. But such mentions cannot be so specific (address, phone number, e-mail address, URL, price, part number, etc.) and so frequent that they become marketing and promotional references.

Only supporting vendors can post Group Purchase threads.

Members can include a mention of their personal businesses in their signatures so long as the enterprise does not compete with an existing supporting vendor, is not Corvette-related and is not so detailed or so frequently appended to their posts that it becomes inappropriate marketing and promotion.

someday yes, they look awesome! but for now I'll stick to my current HID's. the problem I have with the projector is the high cost is only the beginning. they only come with 4300k bulbs, which are far too yellow according to my eyes. I like 6000k at a minimum. so in order to get the lgiht that I want I have to buy the expensive projectors, then spend more money to replace the bulbs with 6000k's. it also looks like the projectors have halogen high beams on them. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like. which means I would need to buy another HID kit for those. it gets expensive fast!

FWIW I have the $1000 HIDs on my 99 and I just installed the HIDs from djmotorsports ( forum vendor) picked them up for $259 shipped on the girlfriends 02...

to be honest the $1000 have the advantage as far as they have the clear lens and projector housing where the ones I just bought use the stock housing so the light is projected differently.

in a side by side comparison the difference is NOT worth the $700...

don't get me wrong I love my HIDs but if I had to do it again I would save the $700 and buy some clear lenses...

that being said...anyone know where I can get clear lenses for her 02??

I also have DJmotorsport HID's in both my C5's for over a year now and they have been perfect.
