Hood wont open

Probably a stretched cable. I had that on another car. Try putting a kink in the wire at a suitable point. If that works it ties down the problem. Never heard of that snag before so can't offer advice on changing the cable.

Okay, you do have a problem there.
The release cable starts on the drivers side (if it was the passenger side that won't unlatch you can pull the hood up a little and grab the release cable that runs under the cowl).
I would attempt to take the footwell area cover off (the one that covers the cable pull handle).
This will allow access to the actual cable. Presuming it is not broken elsewhere, you may be able to gain enough 'pull' to release the latch.
