I can not bring myself to pay the price for the red top. I have two Wal-Mart everstart's that have 8 years of use on each, no problems and for $40 bucks each I can not complain.

My original Delco battery in my 01 gets a lot of abuse - long periods of sitting and really cold conditions. It has proven excellent - why change whats not broke?
Now, it's just me, but I'm of the opinion that any good name battery will be just fine.
I think the AC Delco battery got a bad rap because they ONCE leaked. That doesn't mean they will continue to leak forever!
And I have heard horror stories about the Optima.
My mechanic recommended (and carries) the Interstate battery, so that's what I put in my 'Vette.
This battery topic is only second to the Column Lock issue or what tire is best.
Good luck with whatever you choose. Ask 100 different people, and get 100 different answers!
If I recall right from my days working in the Auto Parts biz (ASE certified, too ) About 90% of all batteries are made by exide and the different vendors put their various stickers and warranties on them.
Meh, I prefer the red top. When I worked at Never A Part available (N.A.P.A.) a rep came in and did a demo of the red-top. He dropped it from the second floor. No leaks or damage. Then he drilled a hole in one of the cylinders. Still no leaks. Next, he put it into my 88 GTA and it cranked right up.
Plus, when, I installed it in my T/A, it kept the lights from dimming when my amplifier put a huge draw on the system when the bass hit. I've put them in every car I own and have had no problems. 2+ years in the vette and well over 5 in the T/A and I haven't had a single problem.
I install computer networks, and outside WiFi antennas...I run a 1500 watt inverter in my van most of the day. Off it I run chargers for cell phone, dust buster, cordless drill batteries, a plug-a-mug, and power hand tools when needed.
This batt. has never let me down. I've even left the inverter on overnight at the hotel and I must say I have yet to kill it. (van is an easy crank however). I still carry a jump pack, but only use it anymore to jump soccer moms in mall parking.
I've been monitoring my vert's good battery, but when the time comes, yellow for me.

I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but isn't the yellow top a deep cell battery? If the OP is only using the battery for cranking and stock functions, Deep Cell batteries are not the way to go
edit: tried looking it up and the website won't work for me.
I've had three batteries in the Vette. The AC Delco died and left me stranded after only 8k miles without warning. (The AC Delco on my sons Camaro leaked). I hear the newer AC Ds have been fixed but I've lost confidence in these batteries. With the piework and computers below the battery tray I'm not prepared to risk another leak. The Optimas are AGM batteries and will not leak. Worth the extra $$$ for me.
My Red Top died when the car was in transit to UK and wouldn't recharge. That said, it was great when the car was a DD.
I now have a Yellow Top as my car is no longer a DD. Red Tops don't like being discharged through irregular use and the Vette always draws some current. A Yellow Top will cope better with that type of use and has performed well for me.
Unless you use you car every day, whichever battery you chose get a battery tender .
Take a look at this poll. It has over 650 votes on how the batteries have performed

Yellow might be overkill for a car, but the research I did prior to purchase, did not give me any convincing evidence against placing a yellow into a daily driver, or future purchase for my vert...with all the electronic gadgetry, cell phone chargers, ipods, gps, and such left in vehicles, then maybe I'll turn on the lamps to heat up, and keep circuitry dry...I say, let the yellow keep life in the parked unit.
