Looking at various induction systems ie vararam, blackwing, stinger/venom, etc.. my question, if you install one of these systems without adding a power duct aren't you just restricting the air flow before it gets to the manifold?

In my opinion, unless you're really going to add some serious mods to your engine, i.e. headers, heads, or cam, adding a CAI system is a waste of money.
I'm sure there will be those that think I'm full of it, but hey, it's just my opinion.
That said, recently, members were discussing HP ratings on the dyno. From a post a few months ago about CAI: "the Vararam is not a dyno toy. Take it to the track. You will see a difference."

A filter system which draws cooler outiside air (vararam, Honker, hurricane, etc) *will* improve performance.
One that is still sucking under hood air will most likely not.
And that's what I think, anyway.

The stock intake is sooooo restrictive...there were a total of four 1 inch holes allowing air into the system.
More air equal more power...colder air equal MORE power. Getting a CAI will permit both.
Here's what air does...
For every 10 degrees you cool the air, you gain 1% engine power.
For every 1 pound of boost, you gain 7% engine power. (in the case of Superchargers & Turbos)
