Default Need help with TI install

I got a shop to put on the mufflers but we ran into a problem when we realized that there were no rubber brackets that the mufflers slide into to keep them in place. I just ordered the parts from my local dealer and was just wanting to know how to pull off the rear bumper cover and if there is a way to put these on without the removal of the bumper. Here is a pic of the parts necessary for the install of one side of the mufflers, the parts for the other side will be here tomorrow.

no need to remove the rear bumper to install the muffler hangers. there should be two studs sticking out on each side to bolt the 2 - 13mm nuts to. Thats all you need to do.

They can be accessed with the bumper on. Why didn't your car have them? The Z06's and coupes mount in the same way. How was the current exhaust mounted? Holes should still be there if it was removed.

The holes are there but there are no bolts to attach the hangers. The bolts that I have pictured need to be put in but I don't see how because there is bumper reinforcement foam in the way. When I was looking at it, it looked like I would have to pull the bumper foam off first and then set the bolts. Can the bumper foam be pulled off with the bumper still on?

could have rattled off up inside, still wondering how the current exhaust was mounted?

Just looked at mine and judging from the pics of the part, and how mine looks, if your bolts are in fact not there, you will be pulling the bumper foam

On the passenger side it did rattle into whatever it is, I just don't know how to get to it to reset the bolts

The guy that had the car before me put in Borla straight pipes there were no mufflers.

ohh, well that sucks then. Maybe they make an anchor type bolt with a sleeve, like you would use for hanging something in a hallow wall. Or maybe you could fit a U-bolt in one end and out the other w/o having to remove the bumper.

I've never had to remove my bumper so I can't help ya with that.. sorry.

It's permanent, but you could have them use regular bolts and weld them to the frame.

Or you could tap the frame and then use bigger bolts so it could thread into the frame from the bottom.

I'm not 100% positive but I believe the place where those bolts went thru was fiberglass... maybe he can JB Weld them, lol.

That's why you never take those nuts off. An old cat back will slip out of the rubber and the new ones will slip in when you're doing exhaust work. I have heard of someone using a magnet and managing to fish the stud bracket back into place. Otherwise, you're right, the tail end has to come off. A lot of screws, but not that difficult.

On my Z06 it's metal. It mounts right onto the frame...???

You can see on this burn vehicle where the mounts would be, unfortunately it looks like you have to access them from the side of the back frame through the hole.

Hi jolitaly -

The place where the holes for those studs is metal - it is the rear frame crossmember....

You might try something like bolts and this :

I have had these bolts go up into the hole before. You have to take an extendable magnet and work one end back into the hole. This can be done without taking the bumper off. Also, to my knowledge these are not welded in....

I beginning to think they should have welded them. I'm taking a half day today so hopefully I can get this done. Thanks for the help!

You can take out your taillight lens and actually get a drill through the opening and there is more than enough room inside to drill vertically on top of the bumper frame a top hole and then use a long threaded rod with washer/bolt on top and go though the bumper framing and out the bottom (hardest part is making sure the top holes aligns pretty darn close with the bottom ones). The holes wont ever be seen and then you have a stud coming out the bottom. Yea its funky rigged, but there aren't a "hole" lot of options.

So you're saying to drill through the top of the bumper frame to get to have access to the bottom? What about the bumper reinforcement foam?
