Default Instructions for replacing antenna?

Hi guys,

I have a C5 and my antenna died so I checked on here and bought a small stubby antenna online(forgot where I bought it and it came with a small mountaing screw, but I do not see any way to mount it to the old base and I am having trouble replacing it. I removed the taillight and used some pliers to cut off the old broken antenna and I pulled it down, but need some instructions on which wires to disconnect(to disable to motor sounds everytime I turn on the radio) and also looking for some instructions on how I can mount these short stubby antennas. Has anyone seen any instructions out there or any ideas on an easy way to do this?

Thanks,

Dan

You have an electric antenna that died. You bought a shorty antenna that is not designed to work on your electric antenna base. It's (probably, depending on thread size) supposed to replace the long fixed mast of a non electric antenna (ala Z06).
You need to completely remove your electric antenna assembly and install a fixed mast antenna assembly. Then your shorty antenna should screw onto the threaded stud at the top of the antenna base.
You can buy a new assembly from Gene at GMPARTSHOUSE, a site supporting vendor. You can buy a used assembly from the other Gene at GENE'S KAR SHOP, another site supporting vendor. Both can be found on the main menu page, in the column to the left.
You could post a want to buy ad in the CF classifieds, asking for a used Z06 antenna assembly. It'll plug into the radio antenna lead and will have no electrical wires to worry about...no more motor sound, either.

Default Maybe Not

My ELECTRIC antenna on my vert stopped retracting. Its is common for the plastic cable inside the telescoping mast to SNAP and even have part of it left inside the motor housing. Detailed instructions are on here on other posts and you can get the motor out by simply taking out the rightmost taillamp lens. I got a new mast at ANTENNAMASTSRUS.COM for less than $20 shipped. If your MOTOR is still running when you turn the radio on and off go for the replacement mast. If part of the mast is inside (the plastic ribbed cable) you need to CAREFULLY drill out the 3 rivits and remove the cover and part of the mechanism, Remove the broken piece, put in some new white lithium grease and replace the rivits with self tapping screws. Mine works just like new now. Good Luck BIGHANK

I think you may be too far down the road to use this fix
