Don't know bud, mine's on a 2002 - don't know how many vendors are making these - got them when they first came out. But I can remove mine with little or no problem. Sounds like you got one with a "Super Magnet" on it!
I don't know, but these things were stuck like iron.. Who knows
Believe me, I WISH these things came off easily.. I wouldn't be here
No, this is probably the same magnet you are talking about, but with mine (not yours??) it's recessed in so far and so tight that there's no way to grip it on the edges, especially without doing any paint damage. The grip this thing had on my lock cylinder shocked me. I had a pc of metal stuck pretty good to the magnet and had no chance of removing it.
I've got the magnet one too. It sounds like you had some kind of friction fit problem as well, my magnet will come off easily if I use some other ferrous metal to "attract" it, i.e. relax its hold on the cylinder face itself.

Alternatively, you could have used superglue to glue a pen top to the keyhole cover, press and hold for 60 seconds, then presto...comes right out.
I went home and picked up super glue and a bolt to glue to the cover. No damage at all I just had to re-paint the key hole cover.....
I have the magnetic type also but I have a plastic washer between it & the door. Fit is tight but not so tight that I can't get it out. If there were no plastic washer, it mght fit to tight. I for one don't want to find out. I wonder when you got the paint work, did they omit the plastic washer/spacer????

I do believe we have a winner... When the magnetic pc was finally pulled off today THERE WAS NO SPACER. I'm sure it would have come off a LOT easier... Good point man. Tomorrow I will be at the shop bright and early
The "Invisible Key Cover" has been on my car for about 6 months. I haven't driven my car much at all since then, until today.
I went to the store this morning, and parked way out in the middle of the lot. I locked the doors and went in.
I came out to find my Keyfob wasn't working . Panic set in because these covers were there and I had no way in..
They were stuck so good that anything that anyone had/tried wouldn't pull the cover off. Needless to say, I now need to repaint my freshly painted door handle, and will NEVER use one of these things again..
They aren't worth the potential damage. Granted had my keyfob been working, I'd have gotten in just fine, but in this rare situation, I was definitely in trouble...
And that's how my Monday morning began...

Well, tonight I took her out to dinner, and tucked her in nice and tight.. She's happy right now. Let's see how long it lasts when she sees me pulling up to the body shop. The last time I left her there she stayed for 6 months
I have one of the original vendor invisible key covers. Mine has a spacer but they do fit tight. I saw that I could not get it off if need be. But the instructions tell you another magnet will pull it off. I always carry outside the car a magnet I found that will pull this magnet off. Not all magnets adhere to each other with their different polarity's so had to experiment to find the right one. I use a paper towel or thin rag between the two to remove. Once you are prepared for this situation, you will not have this happen again.
I was just thinking about this the other day on mine as they have been installed over a year now.
Mine is the magnetic type with the plastic spacer installed. I just now went out and tried to remove it, but it was obvious that the sharp knife trick was going to trash the paint and no luck with finger.
I then figured that if a magnet is holding it on, then a more powerful magnet should get it off? Sure enough, I got my Craftsman extension magnet, pushed it right up next to the plug and the force against the other magnet pushed it right out - tried it twice with no scratches. So now all I have to do is remember to carry a foot long magnet in my pocket whenever I leave the house - no problem.
How about going back into the store and buying a new battery for the fob? I have never used the key hole protectors, but it does seem luck was just not on your side.

I didn't buy the vendor version of my covers. I bought some magnets from the the hardware store and painted them to match. They're slightly larger than the recessed area of the lock, so they sit above the key area slightly. I also used a piece of plastic material behind them so they don't actually have as much grip. I'm going to check mine just in case this were to occur. Thanks!
Me to i am going to check mine also never knew that could happen that piece getting stuck.I just checked mine and it came out easily just used my fingernails around the lock cover and out she came.
