Default Headlamp problems...

Lately I been having a problem with my headlamps staying popped up once I turn them off intermittently. I have since realized a correlation between the headlamps staying popped up after I started running the heater. So, I was wondering what may be in the fuse box in the passengers side floor board that could be heating up and keeping the headlamps from closing? I was thinking #44 - Micro Relay - Automatic Lamp Control Headlamps? Anyone else experienced this type of problem?

Thanks!

Apparently, the #44 - Micro Relay is not the problem, I swapped it out with the #43 - Micro Relay, ran the heater for a little while and have the same problem. Maybe the #54 Maxi Circuit Breaker? Any suggestions?

Any other mods done to your car? Many who have installed HID kits have seen this happen. Have you heard any grinding from your headlight gears? Made sure you don't have a burned out headlight bulb?

Only mod I have is the Borla Stingers. No HID kit, no grinding gears, lights operate perfectly... except when I runn the heater. Even then the lights operate... on, off, highbeams, fog lamps, ect. It just wont retract the lights.

Try fuse #6. Not sure why from its marking but it affects the headlight motors

Worth a look.

DeeGee,

I appreciate the response. I am at work and this will be the first thing I will check when I get home.

Looking at the manual, #6 seems to be an ordinary fuse. I figured if it were just a fuse, the headlamp motors would cease operation all together, instead of being intermittent. That is why I was looking at micro relays, circuit breakers, and control modules. I guess I may be wrong in my assumption?

electricity has a strange way of working sometimes. EMF can cause something in a completely separate circuit to affect another. if the headlight motor fuse is blown you would have no headlight motor functionality at all. but a fuse problem in another circuit could affect it. I'm not sure why, but I've seen some pretty strange things since working on my C5!

the control module for the headlights is located under the passenger's side headlight, there are two wiring harnesses connected to it. one of them brings in signal power (command circuits to open the doors or close them etc) and the other connector has power for the motors and the outputs to the motors. it can be difficult to get to but you should be able to access it pretty easily by removing the shroud around the passenger's side headlight (with the door open) and reaching in. remove the hood stop also if you need more room. I would try unplugging the two connectors and make sure they are seated all the way and that the pins themselves are clean. if you have access to another module you could swap in temporarily that would help to diagnose a module problem.

I thought I would let you all know that it was the multi-function switch. From what I was told, when I ran the heater it would heat up the dash and eventually the switch. Apparently, this is one of the first signs that the switch is starting to fail.
