Whenever I start driving in the morning (from a cold start) after about 3-5 mins there is a "bang" coming from the passenger side rear fender area. It only happens once and then not again for the rest of the day??? It sounds like an object hitting the hollow plastic inner fender.
I looked in the trunk storage areas and everything is secure, so I know it's not anything rolling around in there.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to fix this problem before my last resort...taking it to the stealership
Looks like you have a convertible. Maybe you have a problem with the automatic antenna? That's back there.... Run the antennae up, clean if off and lube it with silicone or something, just a suggestion

My antenna is up as soon as I start so I know that it's not stuck and working loose but it also sounds like it's farther forward than that...it's sounds very close to the rear of the passenger seat. Thanks for the suggestion though!
I was thinking maybe the antenna was sticking before it got to the top and then bang that last inch
The gas tank and the fuel pump is right behind the seats...

Ahhhhh good to know, thanks for that . Luckily I have a GMPP warranty, if it comes to that!
Its reasonably easy to take off the wheel and take out a few of the screws to get a flashlight in there and take a look. You can also get the rear taillight out in 5 seconds flat and see if theres anything loose in the antenna area.

This pic shows whats in there
That sounds like a good idea, I think I'll take a look in the wheel well and see if there's anything loose in there. Thanks for the diagram as well! It just seems strange to me that it only happens once and always at the same time
Check to see if you have a loose pipe hanger or perhaps the pipe is smacking the bottom of the car for so reason. Could be the initial torque causing the pipe to hit once.

Now that's exactly what it sounds like, I'll definitely check that one out...thanks for the idea!
Sounds like it may be heat related if it takes the same 3 to 5 minutes to happen which would indicate the exhaust system. May be a pipe or cat or muffler clamp. Kust a thought.

I'm also thinking that it's heat related as I checked my gauges and it only happens after the engine gets past 133 degrees .
I think what your hearing is what drove me crazy when I first got mine until I had my girlfriend drive while I sat in the passenger seat heard the thump. It was just the flap slamming open on the ac/ heater. When it goes from recirculate to fresh air after car detects outside temp. Hope this helps.
Another thought your parking brake could be sticking on one side, when things get warm enough it releases. If you can, try not using the parking brake and see if you still get the noise on the next start up.

Thanks for the feedback but I don't usually have the A/C on, but I will make sure that it's off and see if it still happens.

That sounds like it could be a possibility, I'll definitely give that a try! Thanks for the idea!
