Ups Charges
When I ordered it they told me it would be $82.00 for the shipping charges. So the package arrives today and UPS wants $193.42 for Freight,GST,Brok Fee, etc. Should I have known all of this, is this normal, or should of the place I ordered it from informed me of all of these extra charges, because if you were to add it all up it cost me nearly $300.00 to get it to St. Albert (Canada) does it say sucker on my forehead?
Not very happy PS: Love my BB Bullet exhaust, just can't tell the wife about the exta charges.

Good thing I live 15 miles from the US border and 30 miles from the UPS depot in the US.
I still pay the GST and PST but no broker fees
RonJ ...

UPS is in business to make money and this they do with the fees they charge to bring your stuff through Canada Customs. They charge you Brokerage Fees (they act as your Broker but you may do this yourself) plus they charge you GST & PST (some provinces) and a Duty (if one applies). They, on your behalf, submit the taxes to the Gubmint.
If you ship via Canada Post (most mailorder places don't) then the PO charges you a flat $5 fee, plus the taxes.
Corvette Central have a good deal going (as does LL Bean) and they act as your Broker and collect and pay your taxes but they don't charge a Brokerage fee. The UPS man will just hand you your package.
Most mailorder places say this on their site or in their catalog - "International orders: Duties and taxes paid by customer"

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I order a $100 part. Shipping is normally up to $50. When it comes through Customs the taxman makes the shipper pay the import tax, another $26.00. the shipper then adds a handling charge of $16
The $100 part ends up costing $192
Ive ordered many things and the shipper was UPS(from the usa), and have been raped. Just the other day actually I got the hyper flash fix from Richard, was a $49 part, went to pick up and had to pay $40.00 for all that jazz.
Damn... that's NOT funny!!

- not to mention being a forum supporting vendor too.I have all your competitors' catalogs and if international sales get a mention at all it's to inform us that we are liable for taxes and duties. No-one mentions the large Brokerage fees charged by their shippers. USPS/Canada Post is an exception (flat rate fee of $5) but almost no large M/O businesses use, or will use if requested, regular post.
So then most occasional buyers get a monster shock when the UPS man (or the FedEx man) bangs on the door. They come here later and complain about "Duty" when really the major charge is the fees that the carriers charge. Yesssss I'm aware they have to make a living and a profit.
This makes your service all the more special as you have to employ someone to do the billing, the Customs forms, collect our taxes and submit them for us.
To buy from your competitors, everyone should do this first (as I have) - phone the company's chosen shipper and ask what percentage they charge to Broker a shipment. If you can understand what you're told, add this to the price of the article you're planning on buying, compare to Corvette Central's price and decide where to spend your money.
To do otherwise is to invite a major surprise when the Brown Santa is holding your much-needed Vette supplies just 12" from your hands.
Thanks CC.
