Hey the next time you see a soldier standing in line at a fast food place ,buy his lunch,I do,tell him thanks for his serviceIts not worth what they go through but they no someone cares.
and it's my dad's birthday. A WWII vet who landed at Normandy.
My father is deceased (1995). However, he was also in on the Normandy invasion. His outfit was one of the few tank groups that did not sink in the ocean. Some went down with the operators inside. They never had a chance.
Being from England,i really do admire the way you lot get behind your military. Its something that is really lacking here in the U.K even to the point that some members of the forces on return from Iraq or Afganistan have been refused service in stores here.Without them and the sacrifices they made we wouldnt have the freedom we enjoy today.I will be out on Sunday for a wreath laying ceremony with my Jeep
Salute them all. (i need the union flag to go alongside)
usmc, 1967 - 1971
rvn, 1968 - 1969
my wife and i also have marine fathers and uncles who served in ww2 who saw a lot of action in the south pacific. some of their stories really make you wonder how they made it through the war.
I am a retired US Army First Sergeant and served from 1969 - 1989. Served in Vietnam from 1970-1971 and my son served in the first Gulf War in the Marine Corp. Both of us war veterans want to thank all of you that have served.
My gift to myself after a 27 year Army career was to purchase my dream car, a CORVETTE. From the C3 era, I have always marveled at the Corvette. I remember in 1998 I talked to a guy who had just bought a C5 and I told him that I was going to get one and with repugnant indignation he says to me, "yeah right". I've never forgotten that.
My personalized license plate is often confused. VETSTYL, I'm asked if I'm a vetinarian or do I design Corvettes etc.
The reality is, VETSTYL, is the style that any military veteran should be riding in; a Corvette with style.
I'm proud of my service and the service of my family. Father a retired veteran, all of four siblings retired veterans along with their spouses as retired veterans and my wife; we realize FREEDOM isn't FREE.
When the last of us retired, we presented our parents with the U.S. flag and said that we are proud to present this to them while we are all still standing; a tearful & proud event.
