Default Raped Or Fair Deal?

My vehicle is at the chevy dealership for a water pump leak. they want to charge me a total of $1080 for parts/labor w/lifetime warranty.

are they raping me or giving me a fair shake??

wouldn't that amount to about 800 in labor?

thanks in advance for your help

I had my mechanic do an A/C compressor replacement. To get it out, he first removed and reinstalled the water pump ...The total labor bill was $275 including not only the r&r on the water pump BUTalso the replacment of the A/C Compressor, purgin a and refilling the A/C system ...

did the dealer offer any vaseline?

Yes you are and it's not a pretty sight either. I gather you are not handy with tools and/or no time to do it?

They are going by book time, I wonder what their labor rates are... must be in the hundred plus per hour range.

Plus the parts, you pay for rags and gloves, also to clean up the shop and disposal of the materials and fluids.

Dealers are in business to maximize profits, service is the highest profit center on their lot. Do the math. They have no intention to treat you fairly.

Raped without lube!!!

I don't totally understand your post. Why are you being charged that much if you have a lifetime warranty? And if the warranty doesn't cover ****, take it somewhere else. Any mechanic should be able to fix a water pump leak.

Default ...

that's what i was afraid of.

they are currently dismantling things to be certain that the leak is coming from the water pump and are going to charge me $110 to do so.

I guess I'll tell them to put it back together ...give them there 100 or so bux and look elsewhere to have the pump replaced.

to answer previous question, i have neither the time nor the know how to do it myself. (and unfortunate and costly lack of knowledge)
.... there currently is not a lifetime warranty...they apparently are charging me a lifetime warranty on parts and labor for the new water pump as part of their quote.

so...RUN FOREST is the appropriate answer then....
great.

Default update

I decided against the raping w/out lube (i think lube is important) and am going to pay them the $110 to have 'diagnosed the problem'.

I'm taking it to another auto repair place that quoted me Parts/Labor total of $290.00 (ahhhh lube)

God, Why does the dealership always try to triple charge people?

Just for fun, have them show you the labor book for a water pump change, then ask them why they charge $200 an hour for labor and $400 for $100 part.

God, the worst part is people get suckered all the time.

Probably paying alot for the lifetime warranty on the new pump, which you will probably never use.
