There will be many people trying the lower grade gas as prices go up. But look at it this way.
If you average 20mpg and put 10,000 miles on your car you will use 500 gallons. If the price difference between 93 octane and 87 is 20 cents then you will save $100.00 over the year.
If cost is bogging you down it would be better to buy the good stuff and drive about 1000 miles less in the year.
Just my 2 cents worth.
okay so maybe i'm wrong and i use premium anyway so don't knock me but i heard something from like dateline or whatever that the gov is in partnership with the gas companies and they are the ones saying premium fuels only cause they get kickbacks on it? someone got sued and so new cars don't say that anymore. My newest vehicle is 04 so I haven't verified that anywhere but it all comes out of the same truck and same tanks so we are probably all paying an extra $2-4 every fill up so mr Pres can drink his tea.
I hope you're not one of those 9/11 conspiracy believers too.

The president is probably responsible for this. It is obvious that he is the true author of the Corvette Owner's Manual. You see, he has friends in high places at the General.
I've been using 87 octane when filling up my C5. Kind of middle of the road octane.
Would it actually be a bad idea to use unleaded 83 octane or would there be no noticeable difference. On the other end, is super 93 octane that much better?
What about those Octane additives, at $15 a bottle Yikes!
What do you guys use and why?
my god i did not know 83 octane was on the market! thats insane!
