Default BSM's?????

I want to take my body side moldings off, but don't want to have a different color paint underneath them. The car is a 03 Z06 torch red. Has anyone had paint discoloration from the body side moldings? (like the car faded some and the paint is brighter underneath the moldings?) Thanks for the info and help.

Not if done right.

There have been many threads started about how to safely remove BSM's. Do a search.

I dont think I've seen any threads where discoloration was a problem, although the older the C5 gets the more likely it becomes. particularly in the desert sun

The main problem I've heard is where cars ahve had a partial respray on the door and the BSM has not been removed. It left a line on removal. Only heard one or two of those. Had one member who got it wrong taking them off and damaged the paint. Pretty rare though. Most have no problems

I just did mine, 03 black Z. 30lb test fishing line, two wooden dowels cut short to fit inside my hand. I drilled a small hole in each dowel centered. I threaded, knotted, then wrapped the fishing line around one, and knotted the threaded end in the other. Slowly "sawed" the line from one end to the other, rolling it off like dental floss as I rolled the other dowel wrapping the used line. Fishing line broke a couple of times if I tried to hurry it. I knotted it again and continued. Molding came off both sides in about 15 minutes. It took about 2 hours to clean the glue residue. My thumbs and fingers were sore from rolling and scraping. I finished with some cleaner, swirl remover, glaze, and wax. Can't tell they were ever there.

The paint problems I have heard of apply more to the removal of hood or trunk emblems where the sun poses more of a problem. Good luck.

The only problem you would probably have is if any panel was ever repainted. You can always put it back on.

Just out of curiousity - if the entire car has been recently repainted, does that increase the chances of pulling off the paint when you remove them? I have to call my body shop on Monday, not sure if they put the moldings back on yet or not, but if they have, is it a problem to remove them?
