Ahhh - the great radar detector debate....so it begins.
Buy the one you prefer - Valentine One or the Escort8500. You can't go wrong with either.

I recommend you just slow your a$$ down...
If you're dying to spend some money, then take the $400 and buy me a Vararam and pay for the install...

And the new Escort 9500 with GPS is pretty cool also.

I own a V1, but must admit that detectors, in general, are not necessary. Sure, you will know you were gunned, but it will most likely be too late.
Drive prudently (know where you can open the car up a bit) and use the $400 on something else.

There isn't a detector that will keep you completely safe. With some of the new laser and pop detectors the police use they are at not too helpful. Mostly a "ticket warning device". I have an inexpensive one I bought from Costco. I've been happy with the limited warning it provides. It has paid for itself a couple of times. Also I wouldn't expect a warning from your local LEO when he stops you and sees the detector stuck to your windshield.
Remember .......If ya gonna play be prepared ta pay!

Either one will work great. I have the Escort 8500 X50 and it's more then paid for itself. I would Avoid the Cobra.

Escort 8500 an up models work really well. The V1 is good also. For the price od either of these you should look into a laser diffuser syetem as well.

Escort works great, but, again, this thing gets hashed out constantly-do a search, and read for hours!

Here's some relatively new RD information - believe it or not.
The "ramp-up" bug has been eliminated in the new GPS-controlled Escort 9500i. The non-linear ramp associated with the geiger counter signal strength report was actually intended to be a helpful engineering design and is/was not an error. It's just that it freaked some people out because they weren't used to it. What it amounted to is the ability to respond to an extremely rapid rise in signal strength (like over a hill) by going to a solid warning tone almost immediately with very little mid range of beeps. Sounds like a decent idea to me but most people didn't like it.
A properly set up 9500i can permanently lock out a response to all the automatic doors on your route and its sensitivity can be automatically reduced at slow speeds. Therefore, it can be made to be very quiet to all but genuine revenue-producing radar. Yet the 9500i's sensitivity to speed radar is very close to the famed V1. If you should want to order one that has the revised ramp up warning it would be a good idea to stipulate that since some of the original units are still out there.
